This position is located in Rosslyn, VA The Darden School of Business has an exciting opportunity for a programmatic specialist to join its Center for Global Initiatives (CGI) as an Assistant Director of Global Programs or an Associate Director of Global Programs . The incumbent for both levels will have the primary role of ensuring the successful delivery of travel course programming, sponsored by CGI, primarily for the professional degree formats. This position will play a leading role in planning domestic and global travel courses for Darden students pursuing an executive or a part-time MBA. This responsibility might also encompass planning global virtual courses and/or supporting domestic travel courses for residential MBA students. The Assistant/Associate Director will collaborate closely with the CGI global programs team, professional degree programs team, faculty leaders, students, and program vendors. Due to the ongoing covid-19 pandemic, we anticipate that the Assistant/Associate Director of Travel Programs may manage some domestic programs at the beginning of their role and gradually transition to a portfolio of more global programs, however, we anticipate that it will likely be a mix of both. The Assistant/Associate Director of Global Programs is responsible for logistical and operational delivery of the professional degree format travel program offerings under the guidance and leadership of the Executive Director of the Darden Center for Global Initiatives and in close collaboration with the Director of Executive MBA Global Programs. This position leads and manages the planning and execution of domestic and global programs for Darden students. This work involves providing recommendations on program structure and development, managing all administrative aspects of the implementation of programs, and supporting students and faculty on the ground when these courses run. This position will also be asked to be present at some weekend executive MBA residencies and evening programming with the part-time MBA students in Rosslyn to communicate opportunities and plans for travel courses and answer student questions in-person. This position may require one to four weeks of global travel each year and will have a high degree of student contact. Some evenings and weekend work required. To be considered for an Assistant Director role, responsibilities include: Work closely with the Executive Director and Director of MBA Global Programs, program faculty, professional formats MBA program team, vendors and other stakeholders to manage operations of travel courses. This includes travel coordination for faculty and staff, outreach for company and/or cultural visits, scheduling, student preparation and communication, financial management, and online course preparation through Canvas. Attend and support executive MBA program weekends during Rosslyn residencies (ie, approximately one weekend per month) and, as needed attend and support programming for part-time MBA students in Rosslyn. Travel one to four weeks annually to manage operations on-site for travel courses with the executive MBA or part-time MBA students and faculty. Work closely with faculty and support teams to develop, implement, and manage course sites on Canvas. Deliver outstanding faculty customer service, helping the faculty member take their course from an idea to a fully developed program. Utilizes a service-oriented mindset, conscious of faculty member time and willing to go the extra mile to align with reasonable individual preferences. Deliver outstanding student customer service, with clear, consistent and timely communications, and as a trusted advisor as students navigate their options for courses, and the challenges of academic travel. Act as a true team player across various internal and external stakeholders; prioritizing both long-term relationships management and logistical needs. Partner with and support the work of other relevant Darden departments. For example, working with admissions to answer prospective student questions with regards to travel courses or partnering with alumni engagement and advancement when travel courses involve opportunities to visit alumni (or their companies). Support other CGI activities in Rosslyn as needed and relevant, such as helping with logistics for international partner programs visits. Monitor expenses and ensures compliance with the University's policies and procedures for assigned global residencies In addition to the above, Associate Director level responsibilities include: Have primary ownership of assigned programs, including budget, staffing and resource allocations. Work directly with faculty and academic leadership to foster the curricular integration of programs. Act on behalf of CGI senior leaders, as needed. Develop and implement program initiatives, curricula, and strategy. Advise leadership and other stakeholders regarding programmatic issues, academic requirements, registration, financial aid, and housing. Spearhead marketing initiatives, particularly as related to prospective students, in alignment with admissions and leadership goals and objectives. Supervise and manage the activities and performance of junior team members, as needed. Knowledge, skills and abilities for Assistant and Associate Director: Experience managing and executing complex logistical projects. Experience working across cultures; professional experience overseas a plus. Experience working with diverse graduate students and faculty. Strong project management skills. Comfort with technology and an ability to learn new systems and platforms quickly. Ability to translate thoughts and directives from several areas into a cohesive plan of action. Ability to manage and coordinate across multiple time zones. Ability to coordinate the activities of multiple parties to achieve desired objectives. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgement. Ability to manage multiple priorities and solve challenges as they arise. Strong attention to detail. Diligent follow-up skills and pushing projects/initiatives forward. Microsoft Office Suite with advanced skills in Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Learning management systems (Canvas), survey software (Qualtrics, et al.), database management (SalesForce) preferred. Required education and experience: Assistant Director: Master's Degree with at least five years of relevant work experience. Associate Director: Master's Degree with at least five years of relevant work experience, seven year of experience of higher education global programming experience preferred. This includes experience collaborating with faculty and senior leadership to foster the curricular integration of programs and the ability to develop and implement program initiatives, curricula, and strategy.
