General Summary of Position: * The Patient Access & Central Scheduler Representative I (PACSRI) is responsible for creating and updating patient's demographics and insurance information while scheduling the patient's requested appointment according to established protocol. The PACSR I handles heavy call volume with patients (transferred from departments and incoming) to update the system with correct patient demographics and insurance, and obtain referral and authorization needs prior to the patient's scheduled appointment date via assigned worklists and reports. Deals discreetly with sensitive, confidential information concerning professional and personal information about staff, patients and hospital programs/operations. Education: * High school degree or GED diploma is required, along with 1 to 2 years of technical or other specialized training, such as training in data entry, medical terminology, and ICD-9/medical insurance coding/billing. Requires the ability to read and write; and knowledge of grammar, and arithmetic including fractions and decimals; and of medical terminology and insurance terminology. Needs basic computer skills and ability to type 40 WPM. Knowledge of the GE/IDX scheduling/registration system and/or automated scheduling/registration system is preferred. Experience: * From 1 to 3 years experience required. Excellent interpersonal communication, customer service skills, and telephone etiquette are required. Certification/Registration/Licensure: * None for this position but must complete the IDX training program and successfully pass the competency exams during probation/on-trial period.
