Westat is seeking an Accessibility Assistant to support the development and maintenance of accessibility resources and materials, including training documents and checklists.  Support includes providing information to staff regarding Federal Section 508 standards and accessibility guidelines. The successful candidate will be able to learn and understand new technologies quickly, for example, updating front-end HTML pages.  The ideal candidate must be detail-oriented, self-motivated, a proactive communicator, and able to organize and present complex information in a clear, concise manner.
Job Responsibilities:
• Write audio/video descriptions, write alternative text for complex charts, equations, and images, and create table summaries for digital products, including social media.
• Work with 508 Coordinator and other staff to develop resources, training materials, and presentations.
• Monitor multiple corporate mailboxes and take action as needed.
Basic Qualifications:
• Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office products such as Teams, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
 • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Be available for full-time work (8:30 am to 5 pm, M-F) in our offices.
• Have the ability to travel to and between Westat offices in the local area.  
Preferred Qualifications:
• A Bachelor's degree
• 1-3 years of copy-editing, proof-reading, or technical writing experience. 
• Video captioning experience.
• Working knowledge of Adobe products (InDesign, Illustrator, Captivate, PDF) a plus.
• Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite including coding 508-compliant HTML (Acrobat DC, Dreamweaver) a plus.
• Familiarity with WCAG 2.0 success criteria and web accessibility requirements is a plus.
• Demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects and manage task needs.
