Duties

As a Materials Handler you will:

Select items for issue:
  • Locate items by using a computerized Inventory Management System, compare stock, identify information on documents with stock number, bin location, bar code tags or package markings.
  • Select stock in the quantities indicated on requestor's documents.
  • Report quantity and location of discrepancies and damage to supervisor.
  • Assemble selected items.
  • Perform issue transactions through a computerized system, and move stock to an issue point, pickup area or directly to the user.

Physical Requirements:


The incumbent is required to stand on hard surfaces for extended periods of time, and to bend, stoop and work in tiring and sometimes uncomfortable positions. He/she may lift and carry items that weigh up to 18.14 kg (40 lbs.}. Heavier items are moved with weigh handling equipment or with assistance from other workers.

  • SUITABILITY, CLEARANCE & REQUIREMENTS: A background investigation will be required for all new hires.     You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
    You must meet the screen-out element, Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (Screen out), normally addressed at the beginning of the online questions.     • This is a bargaining unit position - 1594 Lodge 174 - Columbia Lodge 174, International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers (Non-Craft Employees)
    • The facility typically shuts down annually between Christmas and New Year's Day. As such, all BEP employees must take leave for work days during the shutdown period.
    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
    • A one year probationary period may be required.
    • Public Trust - Background Investigation will be required.
    • Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency.
    • Have your salary sent to a financial institution of your choice by Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer.
    • If you are a male applicant born after December 31, 1959, certify that you have registered with the Selective Service System or are exempt from having to do so.
    • Go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Form I-9 . Federal law requires verification of the identity and employment eligibility of all new hires in the U.S.
    • Submit to a drug test prior to your appointment and random drug testing while you occupy the position.
    • Pass a pre-employment physical examination
    • Wear required safety clothing and/or equipment required by the position. This may include safety shoes, hard hats, hearing protection, gloves, masks, etc.
    • Weekend work and overtime, if applicable, will be scheduled when needed based on production requirements as determined by Management.
    • As required by Executive Order 14043, Federal employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 regardless of the employee's duty location or work arrangement (e.g., telework, remote work, etc.), subject to such exceptions as required by law. If selected, you will be required to be vaccinated against COVID-19 and submit documentation of proof of vaccination by November 22, 2021 or before appointment or onboarding with the agency, if after November 22. The agency will provide additional information regarding what information or documentation will be needed and how you can request of the agency a legally required exception from this requirement.
