The Washington Post is looking for an experienced editor to help lead National news coverage from Friday through Monday, responding to breaking news across America while also managing the daily report from critical coverage areas such as health, science, national security and politics.

This full-time, four-day-a-week position requires strong news judgment, versatility and a proven record of collaboration. The ideal candidate will have a sense of urgency when big news breaks, the capacity to mobilize a large staff in response to a major story, the ability to launch live updating files for our online audience and edit sharp, comprehensive stories on deadline.

On Fridays and Mondays, this person will work closely with leaders of the National staff and across the newsroom to coordinate coverage. On Saturdays and Sundays, this person will be the main voice for National in the newsroom, responsible for delivering a vibrant weekend report that doesn't skip a beat.

This position, which is part of a major expansion of The Post's editing ranks, is based in our Washington newsroom. Once we resume normal operations, it will not be eligible for remote work.

The Post strives to provide its readers with high-quality, trustworthy news and information while constantly innovating. That mission is best served by a diverse, multi-generational workforce with varied life experiences and perspectives. All cultures and backgrounds are welcomed.

Interested candidates should upload a cover letter and résumé to our jobs portal by Dec. 10. All application materials can be uploaded to the same field. The cover letter should be addressed to National Editor Steven Ginsberg and Managing Editors Tracy Grant and Krissah Thompson.
