Duties

  • Provides information, advice and recommendations on administrative matters to the DCJ. Monitors the effectiveness of court operations; identifies problems; and implements administrative changes. Maintains professional relationships with Judges, attorney-advisors and law clerks.
  • Serves as the primary contact with computer specialists in both the OALJ National Office and OCIO (manages the network) and provides on site support for concerning problems remediation for both the network and IT equipment. Is responsible for managing all reportable IT equipment including all Departmental property requirements, which may include but are not limited to annual inventories and disposal of such equipment.
  • Maintains up to date knowledge and expertise on the agency's major information management system and operations through training seminars, self study efforts, and formal technical courses within and outside of DOL.
  • Manages and controls expenditures for supplies and procurement of any items needed by the District Office including all contracts for office equipment and necessary services such as equipment maintenance and translation requirements. Is a COR for such contracts.
  • Utilizes Enterprise Wide DOL Systems to perform procurement, human resource and financial functions.
  • Manages the recruitment, interview, and selection of attorneys, paralegal specialists and oversees College Extern hiring program. Initiates/prepares required entering and exiting paperwork coordinates with college, OASAM, and college externs the completion of human resources, security, and computer account forms prior to bringing students onboard.
  • Helps the DCJ in dealing with employee problems such as performance issues, time and leave problems, work distribution issues, etc.
  • Assists the DCJ in maintaining office staff job results by coaching, counseling and mentoring employees and monitoring job results.
  • Ensures coordination with DOL regional and national Office staff.
  • Reviews requests and motions from parties and, if such requests should be granted, prepares appropriate orders and related legal documents based upon the circumstances of the case and the legal requirements for judicial approval.
  • Reviews unassigned cases upon receipt; summarizes information and legal issues and determines when cases should be referred to the DCJ or if cases are ready for hearing.

Applicants must meet time-in-grade, time-after-competitive-appointment and qualifications requirements within 30 calendar days after the closing date of the vacancy to be eligible for consideration for selection.

GS-09 level: Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, 07, in the Federal Service.

Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:

(1) Directs a variety of administrative research, analysis and status reports for senior executives.
(2) Provides travel assistance and coordinates reservations, prepares travel itinerary, travel authorizations and vouchers for senior executives
(3) Organizing, prioritizing, and anticipating the administrative needs of senior executives.

or

master's or equivalent graduate degree

or

2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree

or

LL.B. or J.D., if related

GS-11 level: Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, 09, in the Federal Service.

Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
(1)Directs a variety of administrative research, analysis and status reports for senior executives.
(2) Provides travel assistance and coordinates reservations, prepares travel itinerary, travel authorizations and vouchers for senior executives
(3) Organizing, prioritizing, and anticipating the administrative needs of senior executives, and
(4) Communicates effectively both orally and in writing with internal and external customers.

or

Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree

or

3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree

or

LL.M., if related
