Duties

  • Interfaces with user and manufacturer of test equipment as necessary to clarify questionable areas concerning the use and accuracy of instruments or nonstandard TMDE.
  • Prepares test and certification reports for customer use, providing specific information such as assigned values, corrections, and uncertainties, over a specified range of circumstances for instruments being calibrated.
  • Assists and advises users in the instrument application, measurement accuracy, and recommended calibration requirements for Test, Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE) in support of their mission.
  • Implements, adapts, modifies and periodically develops technical procedures required by the changing user or equipment requirements.
  • Prepares reports to correct errors in existing procedures and provides technical information used in the decision making process for the development of documents used for TMDE certification.
  • Performs repairs incidental to calibration as required by equipment specifications.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Precision Measurement Equipment Calibrator without more than normal supervision. I am able to perform common tasks including preparing requisitions for resupply. I can perform property accountability requirements and supply inventory to ensure the physical presence of equipment. I have used, or am familiar with common and special tools, and the requirements to care and maintain equipment. I have knowledge of the Army Test, Measurement, and Diagnostic Equipment maintenance program. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:

  • Ability To Do The Work Of The position Without More Than Normal Supervision
  • Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading)
  • Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment
  • Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.
  • Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)
  • Theory and Instruments (Electrical Electronic) Used in Shop and Trade Practices
  • Trouble Shooting
  • Physical Effort: The work may require long periods of standing or sitting along with some walking or bending during the course of extended periods on measurements. Requires frequent lifting, carrying, and handling of items weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Working Conditions: The work is performed in laboratories and user facilities where technicians are exposed to the hazards of high voltage high pressure, high and low temperatures, chemicals and radiation. Calibrators must comply with all safety regulations applicable to the calibration mission.
