Job Description The Technician Specialist position will support the Materials Technologies business in various R&D projects by performing laboratory work. This groups' functions include making and testing new materials for applications primarily in the plastics, coatings and personal care fields however this role will focus more specifically on Pharmaceutical and Personal Care applications. The role would report to the R&D Fellow in Materials Technologies business and be located in Columbia, Maryland. Major Responsibilities Assists engineers and scientists with a variety of laboratory tasks Performs chemical and/or physical analyses or scientific tests using both routine and special techniques in compliance with all safety standards Collects, analyzes and processes laboratory and plant trial samples Records results of tests, organizes data, performs basic computations, and prepares reports and analyses using standard procedures and guidelines Provide technical support to Sales, Marketing, Technical Service and Manufacturing organizations as needed. Active participation in required local safety program, along with the ability to work safely and maintain a clean and orderly lab environment. Installs, operates, maintains and repairs laboratory test equipment, apparatus, systems and supplies Required Skills Commitment to maintaining a safe and organized laboratory environment Knowledge of basic chemical and engineering principles. Strong knowledge of basic wet-chemistry laboratory techniques Familiarity with computer programs such as MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint Ability to work well in a team setting Candidate should have good interpersonal skills and exceptional oral and written communication skills Ability to work with minimum supervision Be able to communicate with other functions, including sales force and marketing on regular basis Required Experience Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related technical field OR High School/Post-Secondary with 4+ years related technical laboratory experience OR Associates degree and 2+ years related technical laboratory experience Experience in pharmaceuticals or personal care applications Preferred Qualifications Proficient with operation of typical computer controlled laboratory instrumentation Good manual dexterity and mechanical aptitude Diligent at keeping written and/or electronic records Some prior knowledge of synthetic amorphous silica chemistry #WRGRACE Grace is not accepting unsolicited assistance from search firms for this employment opportunity.
