Your Opportunity We are looking for a passionate, skilled software engineer to join our Applied Intelligence product development group and work on the alerting platform our customers rely upon to supervise their businesses. As a Senior Software Engineer on the Alerts team, you will be an important contributor to the future of New Relic Alerting, working on a focused team to build exciting new features for our customers and to ensure our Alerting systems are highly reliable. Our customers are DevOps, SRE, and on-call teams. Our Products help engineers detect, understand, and resolve incidents faster and find insights in their data that would otherwise go unnoticed. You'll have a solid understanding of Computer Science fundamentals and an ability to communicate effectively virtually. Linux, Docker, Kafka, Thrift, Java, Ruby, Python, JavaScript, and Go are just the beginning of the technology in our stack What You'll Do Join a team using agile practices to ship software incrementally with frequent customer feedback Collaborate closely with product management and engineers who specialize in design, front-end UIs, customer-facing APIs, high-throughput data streaming systems, and computing and storage infrastructure Be a motivator to systems architecture decisions including defining the boundaries and interfaces between services' APIs Successfully write complex SQL queries against our databases (MYSQL, Postgres), create and handle database indices, and chip into solving database scaling and reliability issues Join a small team of effective engineers collectively accountable for the reliability and security of the team's software Work with a DevOps approach - we build and maintain our own software, including taking turns being on-call, and tailoring our own on-call alert policies to prevent pager-fatigue Maintain a work-life balance that enables you to thrive by leveraging flex time-off, 12 weeks of paid parental leave, and our DataNerds4Good volunteer time off program Your Qualifications Must-have: 5+ years of hands-on Java Multithreading experience. Experience having worked with high-availability, high-scale, distributed systems in a production environment. Direct experience with both Java and Kotlin. Experience shipping reliable high-throughput services to customers in a production environment. Ability to successfully submit PRs to other teams' codebases with low friction by providing the context the team needs to understand and approve the changes. Advocate strongly for improvements to our architecture or future direction, clearly articulating reasons why and assessing tradeoffs.
