Click here to learn more about Evonik from our employees Performs work in most craft skills required to construct, repair and maintain plant equipment, utilities, buildings and related structures of a silica-based chemical manufacturing plant. Performs a wide variety of maintenance and construction duties in the various craft skills including fabrication, welding, pipefitting, mechanical, and millwrighting. Operates and maintains air compressors and related equipment. Trouble shoots and solves mechanical problems and assist supervisor in planning repair or installation work. RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Performs duties of fabricator-welder-pipefitter a. Lays out and fabricates structures, transition pieces, vessels, platforms, stairways, tanks, piping, etc. b. Fabricates and installs screwed, flanged, socket and welded piping. c. Installs tubing, instrumentation, control valves, regulators, and other apparatus. d. Performs qualified welding procedures on mild steel, stainless steels, alloy steels, and othe special metals e. Makes repairs to process and packaging equipment 2. Performs duties of a mechanic-millwright a. Monitors plant equipment for proper operation and makes adjustments, repairs and replacements as required. Performs preventive maintenance. b. Installs and sets up pumps, fans, reducers, agitators, tanks, compressors, blowers and other major plant equipment. c. Performs maintenance on all mechanical equipment including major overhauls, components alignments, adjustments, etc. d. Operates shop equipment such as lathes, mills, saws and drills to repair, manufacture, or replace equipment and components. 3. Operates, maintains and repairs plant air systems. a. Starts up and shuts down air compressors following standard operating procedure. b. Performs preventive maintenance c. Inspects for leaks and other malfunctions and takes corrective action on any deficiencies 4. Thorough understanding of process systems to trouble shoot system malfunctions and execute corrective action. 5. Performs industrial boiler operation and maintenance duties under direction of site Grade 1 Stationary Engineer. 6. Maintains a safe and clean working environment. 7. May perform other duties as assigned. REQUIREMENTS: 1. Minimum 5 years experience in industrial maintenance. Chemical manufacturing background preferred. 2. Demonstrated mechanical knowledge and repair abilities for equipment typical of an industrial chemical facility (various pumps, compressors, valves, piping systems, etc.). 3. Existing Maryland Stationary Engineering License Grade 5 or higher preferred. Training/Education 1. Requires a high school diploma/GED and completion of a craft apprenticeship, or an equivalent number of years of education and industrial maintenance experience. An AA degree in mechanical, electrical, or industrial maintenance a plus.
