The Business Applications unit within University Relations seeks a Data Scientist to join its team of data analysts and application developers.  The Data Scientist will work to support Advancement operations for the University of Maryland, which includes development (fundraising), alumni and donor relations, gift processing, and other functions.  This individual will play a key role in enabling Advancement business users to make data-informed decisions that will help the university reach its capital campaign goals.

The Data Scientist will manipulate and analyze advancement datasets to reach meaningful data driven conclusions or discoveries.  Working closely with business stakeholders to understand their goals and data dependencies, the Data Scientist will identify, investigate, and analyze appropriate data.  They will apply appropriate models, algorithms and/or machine learning techniques to reach desired results.  Some examples include working to identify prospects who should be contacted for a fundraising opportunity, or utilizing a decision tree to identify the appropriate capacity/affinity rating for prospects.  The Data Scientist will support internal data wrangling and ETL pipelines to improve the quality of Advancement data and data insights.

The Data Scientist will use descriptive analytics to identify bottlenecks or areas of improvement, and in collaboration with awesome front-end developers, narrate a visual story for relevant metrics and KPIs.  They will also use online advancement data stores to benchmark against comparable higher education institutions.
