Job Description

This position requires an individual who has significant employee relations experience, deep subject matter knowledge, and strong communication and interpersonal skills that enable the individual to work successfully on a broad spectrum of employee relations issues and projects.

The central objective of the ACPS employee relations team is to ensure our organization's treatment of employees is fair, respectful, and consistent with the framework of our core business values and objectives. To support that objective, this position's responsibilities fall into proactive and reactive categories. This position will provide strategic support and partner with principals, senior managers, teachers, classified staff, and external customers with resolving workplace conflict, performance management, workplace accommodations, and engagement initiatives. This position will also support and provide guidance to the HR Generalist I.

This job reports to the Director of Employee Relations at Central Office - HR.

This position works on-site and will follow ACPS' telework policy.


Education: Bachelor's degree, preferably in human resource management or related field or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Certificates & Licenses: aPHR, PHR/SHRM or SPHR/SHRM-CP, or similar human resources-related certification strongly preferred.

Required Experience:
  • Minimum of three (3) years of direct human resources experience (recruiting, benefits, compensation, training, and development, employee relations, or workplace accommodations, etc.).
  • At least two (2) years of consulting with various stakeholders on performance/disciplinary concerns, workplace accommodations, onboarding, record management, compliance, and/or performance evaluations.

Preferred Experience:
  • Prior experience in primary/secondary education, higher education, or the public sector.
  • Prior practice in writing policies, conducting workplace investigations, and overseeing due process meetings.

Essential Functions
  • Understand and execute end-to-end HR business processes across the employee lifecycle
  • Participate in all levels of coordination to support the Director, including but not limited to:
  • Onboarding and offboarding employees
  • Education-specific talent development efforts, such as coordinating performance management processes
  • Employee relations assistance, such as training, investigating, and documenting
  • Ensuring school locations and offices comply with the displaying of labor posters and signage
  • Compiling data and completing the EEO-5 and other compliance reports
  • Entering and managing cases using the case management system
  • Engaging with various levels of staff regarding workplace accommodations
  • Managing the exit interview process, conducting pulse surveys, and other engagement activities
  • Creating documentation for HR systems and process enhancements
  • Working collaboratively to improve efficiency and consistently execute all HR business processes
  • Provide thoughtful, accurate, and timely responses to HR colleagues and employees, managers, and school leaders
  • Researching, investigating, and making recommendations related to workplace grievances
  • Reviewing criminal history inquiries
  • Providing inquiry-related data and insights on themes to improve the employee experience

  • Operate general office equipment such as copier, computer, scanner, telephone, and fax machine

  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
  • Tuberculosis Skin Test.
  • Child Protective Services Clearance.

Public Health Compliance
  • Proof of COVID vaccination. Exemptions for religious/medical will be reviewed.
  • Must follow safety and health protocols in the office and building environment.
