General Overview: The Peer Support Specialist will utilize their own lived experience with mental/behavioral health disorders and serve as a role model to young people, display competency in developing and implementing coping skills and personal goals and engage youth into services as appropriate. This worker will support youth and administrative tasks in two programs: Wraparound Montgomery and JSSA Mind Craft. The Peer Support Specialist directly reports to the BHSS supervisor who reviews clinical and administrative work and offers regularly scheduled supervision as well as additional consultation on an as-needed basis. Responsibilities: Actively participate on child and family teams, encourage the youth's full engagement in the wraparound process, and assists the team in the development of the plan of care. Provide support, encouragement, and assistance to youth participating in the wraparound process. Advocate for youth and facilitate linkage to needed services, supports and activities. Support youth voice and choice by coaching youth in effective advocacy. Help the child and family team members and others working with the youth to understand youth culture. Establish close working contacts in the community (eg, school guidance counselors) to facilitate referrals, collaborative implementation of plans of care, follow-up, etc. Position Qualifications: A high school diploma or GED. CPRS Certified in Maryland or at minimum, willing to engage in training and activities to complete CPRS certification. 2 years of experience with families and youth Strong oral and written communication skills. Experience working with school aged youth.
