Are you searching for inertial navigation and optimal estimation design and simulation work across a wide range of aerospace and missile systems applications? Do you have broad knowledge and expertise in optimal estimation, inertial navigation algorithms, filters, and sensors? Do you like contributing to some of our country's most difficult national security challenges? If so, we're looking for someone like you to join our team at APL. We are seeking an experienced Navigation Engineer to help us design and analyze a variety of navigation systems, evaluate and refine algorithms and approaches and perform error propagation and covariance analysis. As a member of our team, you will perform and lead exciting projects supporting the US Department of Defense and the warfighter. We strive to develop, apply, and maintain deep expertise in strapdown, GPS aided, and terrain aided navigation systems. Our diverse team of hardworking engineers believe in fostering an environment of continuous learning and mentoring. As a Senior Inertial Navigation, Modeling, and Simulation Engineer you will Lead the design and analysis of navigation systems including strapdown algorithms and aiding filters fusing measurements from multiple sensors. We work with inertial measurement unit (IMU), global positioning system (GPS), terrain mapping sensors, and are working with multiple sponsors to identify practical GPS alternatives. Mentor junior staff and help ensure that our team maintains deep knowledge across multiple areas of inertial navigation. Develop, implement, and study navigation models flight systems in a simulation environment. You will use simulations to predict behavior as well as identify potential system pitfalls, and utilize both Monte Carlo and covariance based methods to understand trends from simulation output and perform high-level system trades. Perform tests of model hardware in both a lab environment and on an actual system. You will provide test support and post-test analysis of hardware and navigation algorithms implemented in onboard software. Qualifications You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you Possess a BS or MS in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering or other related technical discipline. Have 7+ years experience successfully leading design and analysis of inertial navigation systems, sensor fusion and state estimation via Kalman or other optimal filtering algorithms, or navigation simulation and model development. Are comfortable with analysis and development using MATLAB, Simulink, and C++. Possess strong communication abilities, both verbal and written. Must work effectively with diverse teams and be able to multi-task and support multiple development projects concurrently. Hold an active Secret security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include US citizenship.
