In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience is defined as:
GS-06: I have one year of specialized experience which includes: perform record keeping, utilize automated systems, assist with Freedom of Information and Privacy Acts requests, and provide clerical support at the GS-05 level.
GS-07: I have one year of specialized experience which includes: perform record keeping and retrieval, utilize automated systems, prepare memorandums, assist with Freedom of Information and Privacy Acts requests, and provide administrative support at the GS-06 level.
GS-08: One year of specialized experience which includes: review and analyze records, utilize automated systems, prepare memorandums, assist with Freedom of Information and Privacy Acts requests and appeals, compile information for reports and provide administrative and clerical support at the GS-07 level.
These definitions of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service.
You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent. Applicants must meet all eligibility requirements and minimum qualification requirements prescribed by OPM within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
Additional information
- Receive and review all incoming Freedom of Information Act/Privacy Act (FOIA/PA) requests.
- Search all law enforcement databases for responsive records to requests.
- Prepare correspondence and memorandums.
- Conduct inquiries and special interest requests received under authority of law or policy.
- Determine additional contacts and refer requesters to appropriate agencies to coordinate and re-adjust requirement and provide interim replies when unexpected data is revealed, no results are realized, or replies are subject to unavoidable delay.
- Use knowledge and experience of procedures, record keeping, and automated system search procedures employing variations of search criteria to locate potentially responsive records.
- Mail correspondence/memorandums/records - utilizing the appropriate method (especially for CLASSIFIED docs), i.e, Registered, Certified.

- Position is designated Critical-Sensitive (3) which requires access to classified information and requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a single scope background investigation (SSBI) and a Top Secret Security Clearance.
- Required to sign a DA Form 5019-R (Condition of Employment for Certain Positions Identified as Critical Under the Drug Abuse Testing Program) and must pass urinalysis testing as required prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
- Employee of the position will be required to complete a Form SF 313, Classified Information Nondisclosure Agreement.
