STATEMENT OF JOB:The Life Enrichment Director shall develop and implement meaningful activity and recreational programs for the entire community, including Independent Living (IL), Assisted Living (AL), and Memory Care (MC). The programs must embrace and fulfill the needs, as well as varied interests of the residents while promoting or enhancing physical and psychosocial wellbeing. Design of the programs will include social, sensory, physical, cognitive, reflective, nature, spiritual, activities and outings. The Life Enrichment Director shall manage volunteer recruitment efforts to create a robust volunteer program throughout the community. The Life Enrichment Director shall oversee the transportation program for the community.Responsibilities include but are not limited to:Resident Activity Programs:Plans and develops an effective resident activities program, including a variety of leisure and educational opportunities and activities for participation of residents of all ages, interests and physical limitations.Serves as a member of the facility's management team to identify resident needs, submit recommendations and participate in decisions regarding program plansAttends resident association meetings and works with committees of residents in an advisory and supportive capacity to identify resident and program needsProvides a link between resident associations and staffPlans a monthly program of activities for all levels of care (ie, IL, AL and MC) per Harmony Senior Services guidelinesMeets with each new resident to complete the Resident Life ProfileInvolves Program Coordinator/Activities Assistant in activity programming whenever necessaryConsult regularly with families regarding resident's participation in activitiesOversees programming budget and maintain expenses within budgeted guidelinesMaintains activities area and supplies in a neat and orderly fashionProvides guidance and acts as a resource to staff on the importance of life enrichment and other areas regarding the quality of life for residentsSupports a dignified and caring atmosphere for residents, resident's families, visitors, and staffMonthly Activity Calendar:Plans, coordinates, and implements a daily activity program in compliance with Harmony Senior Services guidelines and standards:Communicates program schedules and activities through facility newsletters, bulletin boards, activity events, etc.Coordinates resident transportation to groceries, doctors, shopping, leisure activities and other resident activitiesCoordinates regular programs such as resident birthday recognitions, maintaining resident directories and birthday listsOrganizes and leads off-site outings for residents; providing transportation and safe coordination for participantsOrganizes facility activities for group and individual participationEstablishes and leads resident psycho-social groups as appropriateMaintains and stores supplies required for various activitiesVolunteer Program:Coordinates and oversees volunteer opportunities.Recruits volunteers and community volunteer organizations to provide programs and activities for residents; Trains and recognizes volunteersAssists with community public relations as neededDevelops avenues for volunteers to work with residents in the facilityProvides opportunities for residents to volunteerServes as staff liaison in the coordination of student interns as neededRequirements:Qualified therapeutic recreation specialist or an activities professional who is eligible for certification as a therapeutic recreation specialist or an activities professional by a recognized accrediting body, such as the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification or the National Certification Council for Activity Professionals; or has two years of experience in a social or recreational program within the last five years, one year of which was full-time in a long-term care setting providing programs for seniors with Alzheimer's and other related DementiaBe a Certified Dementia Practitioner or Eligible for CertificationMaintain applicable state requirements of dementia specific trainingHigh level of ability in effective and succinct communication, written and oral with residents, families, staff, vendors and the general publicMust have compassion for and desire to work with the senior populationMust be a self-starter and demonstrate the ability to work responsibly & independently as well as a team playerMust be honest, fair, dependable, respect confidentiality and the rights and privacy of othersMust have experience in planning, organizing and executing a varied schedule of life enrichment opportunities for all levels of seniors from those who are very active to those with cognitive impairments resulting from Alzheimer's and related dementias; Must have exceptional organizational skillsAbility to establish effective relationships with residents, family members and staffAbility to supervise team members and set up and train volunteersAbility to represent the Community in a positive and professional mannerRequires current First Aid and CPR certification or eligibility to obtain within 60 days of hireMust have valid driver's license and a good driving recordAbility to work a flexible schedule to include days, evenings, weekends and holidays
