Natural Infrastructure AssociateThe Natural Infrastructure Associate will work with TRCP's Chief Conservation Officer to organize and advance the voice of hunters and anglers around initiatives to advance natural infrastructure policy solutions at the national level. The position is responsible for providing support to the organization's conservation program with a focus on issue-based advocacy to influence public policy around natural infrastructure solutions via the following three-pronged approach:Promoting science-based conservation and policyThe TRCP takes a science-based approach to conservation that balances sportsmen/women and outdoor recreation access with responsible management of public and private lands.Building coalitions and empowering leaders from the sportsmen/women-conservation community and beyondThe TRCP builds constituencies to find solutions to land and water-use challenges and works with hunters and anglers and the conservation and outdoor recreation community to provide public access to fish and wildlife resources, conserve habitat, and fund conservation programs.Implementing public education campaigns and conservation advocacyThe TRCP uses public education tools to effectively advance public policy in Congress and the executive branch, as well as within state legislatures and state fish and wildlife and environment agencies, through strategic campaigns, grassroots organizing, media generation, civic involvement, and scientific research.Key ResponsibilitiesCo-lead the TRCP Natural Infrastructure Working Group in close coordination with TRCP conservation, government relations, and communications staff, external consultants, and the TRCP partner co-lead.Support development of natural infrastructure advocacy and educational materials that highlight the social and economic benefits of natural infrastructure and nature-based solutions to hunting and fishing.Represent the TRCP in external coalition efforts to ensure an emphasis is placed on fish and wildlife conservation and the interests of hunters and anglers are well represented.Track existing and identify new opportunities for federal funding for natural infrastructure with a focus on conservation, water quality and quantity, coastal resilience, and outdoor recreation access.Organize, and in some cases host, briefings for sportsmen/women and conservation organizations, members of the media, and grassroots hunters and anglers about the importance of natural infrastructure solutions for the hunting, fishing, and outdoor recreation industry, including the economic benefits to communities and local economies.Develop communications strategies and effective messaging for important briefings, meetings, and other outreach events, in close coordination with the TRCP Chief Conservation Officer, government relations, and communications staff.Build and maintain relationships with key decision makers in Congress and target federal agencies, creating champions for the sportsmen/women's agenda to advance natural infrastructure solutions.QualificationsA successful candidate will possess:A Bachelor of Arts or Science degree ideally in fish and wildlife management, marine fisheries, environmental studies, or a related field;A minimum of 2 years experience working in conservation, resource management, or the political sphere; Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively and concisely (both in writing and orally);Superior writing, editing, and research skills including compiling information from divergent sources;Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including the ability to develop and maintain large Excel databases;Knowledge of campaign development and grassroots advocacy;Strong organizational skills and careful attention to detail;Working knowledge of federal natural resources policy and efforts to advance natural infrastructure solutions;Demonstrated ability to manage projects and deadlines while maintaining disciplined adherence to program goals;Strategic thinking; ability to anticipate future trends and incorporate them into organizational campaign and work plans;Ability to work with the TRCP team, including program, communications, government relations, and development staff, and in coalition with partners and allies, including unconventional allies;Interest in being part of a fun and nimble policy team; andA passion for hunting, fishing, and natural resource conservation.The Salary starts at $55,000 and is commensurate with experience; excellent health care and vacation benefits are included.
