Duties

As a Lead Security Specialist, you will:

-Provide oversight of and guidance to lower graded (GS-7 through GS-11) employees.
-Ensure that the organizations strategic plan, mission, vision and values are communicated to the team and integrated into the teams strategies, goals, objectives, work plans and work products and services.
-Articulate and communicate to the team the assignment, project, problem to be solved, actionable events, milestones, and/or program issues under review, and deadlines and time frames for completion.
-Coach the team in the selection and application of appropriate problem-solving methods and techniques, provide advice on work methods, practices and procedures, and assist the team and/or individual members in identifying the parameters of a viable solution.

The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service . One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.   • SUITABILITY, CLEARANCE & REQUIREMENTS: A background investigation will be required for all new hires. Appointment will be subject to the applicant's successful completion of a background investigation and favorable adjudication. Failure to successfully meet these requirements will be grounds for disqualification in the hiring process. The background investigation process conducted by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing is very thorough. Therefore it is imperative that applicants exercise candor and honesty when answering background questionnaires, especially as it relates to arrest, employment, education, finances, illegal drug use, and/or other criminal history. Falsification discovered in security documents or during the background investigation process may result in an immediate negative suitability determination or immediate revocation of your interim clearance (if applicable).

    Qualifications

    You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

    Specialized Experience: For the GS-12, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service.

    Specialized Experience:
    for this position includes:
    -Developing proposals, briefings or reports to state the security position on security related issues; AND
    -Developing of security policies, procedures, or priorities; AND
    -Experience performing security work involving the application of security programs and policies in order to safeguard personnel, facilities, materials, or documents; AND
    -Communicating effectively with varying audiences such as senior staff members, subordinate staff and other stakeholders in reference to security related information.

    Time-In-Grade Requirement:
    In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable: For the GS-12, you must have been at the GS-11level for 52 weeks.

    OTHER INFORMATION:
    • We may select from this announcement or any other source to fill one or more vacancies.
    • This is a non-bargaining unit position.
    • The facility typically shuts down annually between Christmas and New Year's Day. As such, all BEP employees must take leave for work days during the shutdown period.
    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
    • A one year probationary period may be required.
    • Public Trust - Background Investigation will be required.
    • Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency.
    • Have your salary sent to a financial institution of your choice by Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer.
    • If you are a male applicant born after December 31, 1959, certify that you have registered with the Selective Service System or are exempt from having to do so.
    • Go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Form I-9 . Federal law requires verification of the identity and employment eligibility of all new hires in the U.S.
    • Obtain and use a Government-issued charge card for business-related travel.
    • Submit to a drug test prior to your appointment and random drug testing while you occupy the position.
    • Wear required safety clothing and/or equipment required by the position. This may include safety shoes, hard hats, hearing protection, gloves, masks, etc.
    • Carry and use a firearm. Maintaining firearm proficiency is also mandatory. You will be ineligible to occupy this position if at any time you have been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence, unless you received a pardon or your conviction was expunged or set aside.- Complete or have previously completed the basic Criminal Investigator Training course(s) at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Glynco, GA.
    • Weekend work and overtime, if applicable, will be scheduled when needed based on production requirements as determined by Management.
    • As required by Executive Order 14043, Federal employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 regardless of the employee's duty location or work arrangement (e.g., telework, remote work, etc.), subject to such exceptions as required by law. If selected, you will be required to be vaccinated against COVID-19 and submit documentation of proof of vaccination by November 22, 2021 or before appointment or onboarding with the agency, if after November 22. The agency will provide additional information regarding what information or documentation will be needed and how you can request of the agency a legally required exception from this requirement.
    • Due to COVID-19, the agency is currently in an expanded telework posture. If selected, you may be expected to temporarily telework, even if your home is located outside the local commuting area. Once employees are permitted to return to the office, you will be expected to report to the duty station listed on this announcement. At that time, you may be eligible to request to continue to telework one or more days a pay period depending upon the terms of the agency's telework policy.
