Duties

  • Serves as a FOIA research specialist for the Office of FOIA Services performing FOIA research assignments and responding to FOIA requests supporting the work of the organization and the senior staff.
  • FOIA research work conducted is typically related to: FOIA requests, confidential treatment requests (CTR's); analysis and identification of deficiencies in SEC processes; determination of information requests subject to Rule 83.
  • Analyzes FOIA requests for information, researches records, collates information, determines if information is appropriate for release, and prepares the requested information for release and/or review.
  • Researches SEC databases and files, media, government, and corporate websites, and other relevant sources to locate information related to the functions of the assigned organization.
  • Collaborates with senior staff in the preparation of comprehensive documents/ reports covering all phases of research and analysis relative to assigned area of responsibility.

  • PROBATIONARY PERIOD: This appointment may require completion of a one-year probationary period.

  • DRUG TESTING: This position may be subjected to drug testing requirements.
  • PERMANENT CHANGE OF STATION (PCS): Moving/Relocation expenses are not authorized.
  • DIRECT DEPOSIT: All Federal employees are required to have Federal salary payments made by direct deposit to a financial institution of their choosing.
  • This position is in the collective bargaining unit.

Qualifications

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.

Time-in-grade for this announcement is one year at the GS/SK-11 level. Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT:
SK-12: Applicant must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS/SK-11 level: 1) providing support by researching information related to areas of program emphasis; 2) collecting and extracting data from a variety of sources and compiling research results; 3) preparing correspondence, reports, or other documents related to work assignments; and 4) maintaining records, documents, and files.
