Duties

As a Staff Director Product/Distribution/Strategic Initiatives, you will:
  • Provide leadership and direction to the Product, Distribution and Strategic Initiatives section by developing, establishing, and implementing innovative programs and digital approaches to support the Bureau's mission to empower consumers to take more control over their financial lives.
  • Create, lead, and support policy and initiatives that fulfill CFPB's consumer protection mission, especially initiatives that support consumers in building and using the skills and habits that lead to increased financial capability.
  • Direct and oversee the design and implementation of digital tools or products, educational messages, and approaches to digital distribution.
  • Oversee the conceptualization and creation of user tested, consumer-friendly products that are responsive and easy-to-use.

    Due to COVID-19, the Bureau is currently in a maximum telework posture through at least January 15, 2022. If selected, you may be expected to temporarily telework, even if your home is located outside the local commuting area. Once employees are permitted to return to the office and maximum telework is revoked, you will be expected to report to the duty station listed on this announcement. At that time, you may be eligible to request to continue to telework on a routine or situational basis in accordance with the Bureau's telework policy.

    Qualifications

    You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the announcement's closing date.

    For the CN-71, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the CN-60 grade level in the Federal service. (For qualification purposes, the CN-60 is broadly equivalent to the GS-14). Specialized experience for this position includes:
    • Experience developing strategic initiatives and campaigns to advance an organization's priorities; AND
    • Developing, implementing, and overseeing a product strategy that supports multiple consumer financial and/or operational business lines using a governance approach that includes prioritization, product road mapping and the development of a standardized product lifecycle; AND
    • Leading a team that creates digital product concepts based on consumer needs and organizational strategy; AND
    • Developing and maintaining a targeted outreach and distribution strategy for an office or organization.

    The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service . One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.     • The selectee's directly related experience at the same level as the position

    • The salaries of other Bureau employees in similar positions and with similar levels of experience.

    We also take the selectee's skill set into account. Applicants should note that salary offers seldom fall near the upper end of the salary range as listed in this vacancy announcement. Salary may be set from the minimum of the salary range to the midpoint of the salary range. In some instances, based on a selectee's extensive experience directly related to the position, salary may be set at or above the mid-point up to the maximum salary for that band level.     CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
    • A one year supervisory probationary period may be required.
    • Public Trust - Background Investigation will be required.
    • Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency.
