Additional information about our company, our people, and our mission can be obtained by visiting our website at .We are currently seeking a Senior Rocket Test Engineer with a focus on Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls to join our facility located near Culpeper, in rural Orange County, Virginia (1.5 hours from Washington DC).Rocket Test Engineers are essential in transforming propulsion program test objectives into test results. Rocket Test Engineers work with customers, program managers, and project engineers to define test objectives and identify and select test methods and instrumentation. They then create plans and procedures for safely conducting these tests, utilizing existing test facilities and equipment, and/or designing new tools or techniques. Rocket Test Engineers tackle a variety of problems and use a wide range of engineering skills, from mechanical and aerospace to electrical and software. Types of tests include static rocket motor firings, case proof and burst pressure testing, case structural loads testing, direct-connect ramjet / scramjet testing, aeroheat material testing, and dynamic / environmental testing.This position may be filled at the level posted or at the next higher level.Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each):35% - Specify and prepare instrumentation and control methods, configurations and procedures to meet test requirements, applying extensive technical expertise. Interface with Design/Project Engineering to develop/interpret instrumentation and control requirements. Design and develop electronic circuits, software, and hardware to interface with facility and test article. Work with Quality and Safety to ensure test methods meet calibration and process safety requirements.30% - Conduct, oversee, and support test operations, maintaining responsibility for instrumentation & control. Implement instrumentation installation and calibration, electrical controls and ordnance setup and wiring, test article prep, data acquisition system setup, control software development, physical/mechanical hardware setup, etc. Participate in testing as test director, data or control systems operator, or other. May include directing subcontracted test programs at off-site test facilities.15% - Prepare technical documentation, including test procedures, electrical schematics, safety reviews, and test readiness reviews.15% - Manage cost and schedule for test programs. Provide input to cost and schedule planning/estimates of facility equipment and test programs.5% - Provide technical expertise to other areas on plant and sites.Requirements:Requires a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline, along with at least 5 years of related experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience). Strong written and verbal communication skills, teaming and collaboration in a diverse work environment required.Desirable experience and proficiency with one or more of the following:Data Acquisition systems and signal conditioning (Pacific Instruments, etc.)Instrumentation (strain gage, pressure, force, temperature, etc.)Control software and hardwareClassified data systemsElectronics design and assemblyCabling, wiring, and solderingTroubleshooting electronic circuits (signal noise, ground loops, etc.)High voltage ordnanceAutoCAD, LabView, C/C++, Matlab/SimulinkPLC hardware and software (Allen Bradley, etc.)Related work experience involving pressure and/or mechanical systems is a plusBeing fully vaccinated for COVID-19 is a condition of employment at Aerojet Rocketdyne. Must be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.Work Environment/Physical Requirements:The work environment may require a combination of indoor and outdoor activity (hot, cold, wet, humid conditions) with a varied amount of walking, standing, sitting, climbing (ie ladders, stair, scaffolding, ramps), balance (maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces), bending, reaching, handling/fingering (seizing, holding, grasping, turning picking, pinching), stooping, kneeling, crouching and ability to lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 pounds. Work may require the ability to operate material handling equipment (forklift, crane, hoist, man lift, etc.) in a safe manner. While performing the duties of this job, employees may work around variable noise levels or with fume or airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, etc. requiring the use of personal protective equipment such as face protection (safety glasses, goggles, face shield), foot protection (ie steel toed shoes, rubber boots, etc.), gloves, hard hat, shop coat and hearing protection. Work requires the ability to change into or out of personal protective equipment when entering or exiting manufacturing, laboratory, or other areas. Some employees may be required to drive between various locations within the Company facility or between locations. Work duties may also be required to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer and/or the ability to travel by air or auto. Ability to distinguish colors may also be necessary. This position may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
