Job DescriptionThe Technician Specialist position will support the Materials Technologies business in various R&D projects by performing laboratory work. This groups' functions include making and testing new materials for applications primarily in the plastics, coatings and personal care fields however this role will focus more specifically on Pharmaceutical and Personal Care applications. The role would report to the R&D Fellow in Materials Technologies business and be located in Columbia, Maryland.Major ResponsibilitiesAssists engineers and scientists with a variety of laboratory tasksPerforms chemical and/or physical analyses or scientific tests using both routine and special techniques in compliance with all safety standardsCollects, analyzes and processes laboratory and plant trial samplesRecords results of tests, organizes data, performs basic computations, and prepares reports and analyses using standard procedures and guidelinesProvide technical support to Sales, Marketing, Technical Service and Manufacturing organizations as needed.Active participation in required local safety program, along with the ability to work safely and maintain a clean and orderly lab environment.Installs, operates, maintains and repairs laboratory test equipment, apparatus, systems and suppliesRequired SkillsCommitment to maintaining a safe and organized laboratory environmentKnowledge of basic chemical and engineering principles. Strong knowledge of basic wet-chemistry laboratory techniquesFamiliarity with computer programs such as MS Excel, Word and PowerPointAbility to work well in a team settingCandidate should have good interpersonal skills and exceptional oral and written communication skillsAbility to work with minimum supervisionBe able to communicate with other functions, including sales force and marketing on regular basisRequired ExperienceDegree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related technical field ORHigh School/Post-Secondary with 4+ years related technical laboratory experience ORAssociates degree and 2+ years related technical laboratory experienceExperience in pharmaceuticals or personal care applicationsPreferred QualificationsProficient with operation of typical computer controlled laboratory instrumentationGood manual dexterity and mechanical aptitudeDiligent at keeping written and/or electronic recordsSome prior knowledge of synthetic amorphous silica chemistry#WRGRACEGrace is not accepting unsolicited assistance from search firms for this employment opportunity.
