Performs electrical work at the journey level in the installation, alteration, maintenance, and repair of electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical systems within the Electrical Mechanical Section. If assigned to the Anaerobic Digestion/Combined Heat & Power (AD/CHP) facility, shares in the effective operation and maintenance of facility's equipment.Essential FunctionsOversees subordinate Electrical MechanicsDetermines reasons for wear and repairs various types of mechanical items such as pumps, compressors, conveyors, screens, valves, fans, etc. and makes appropriate repairs/recommendations for preventionReplaces belts, bearings, couplings, chains, bearings, sprockets, augers, shafts, grease lines and flights as necessary and makes appropriate repairs/recommendations for preventionInstalls pumps, motors, pipes, street lights, heaters, exhaust fans, main feeders, conduits, valves, breakers, switchgear, and electrical controls as requiredRepairs pneumatic and hydraulic control systems on valves and bubbler systemsRepairs controls of various voltages and types such as variable speed and synchronous motorsMaintains electrical substations up to 69KVServices heating and air conditioning systemsServices generators and their associated automatic starting equipmentInstalls, inspects, tests & repairs a wide variety of other electrical or mechanical equipmentMaintains gas collection and treatment equipment as well as gas flaring systems as neededMaintains high and low-pressure steam boilersMaintains and repairs drive units, fuel pumps, air compressors, lump breakers, grinders, scum pumps, off-gas systems, fuel oil tanks, multi-hearth incinerators and pumpsLubricates and paints plant equipment; performs general plumbing and replaces malfunctioning pumpsRepairs and maintains water softener systems, cranes, boiler feed pumps, centrifuges, air dryers, re-aeration tanks and pneumatic controlsRepairs bar screens and conveyors and replaces couplingsAssists Electrical/Mechanical Section Manager in the repair of transformers, high voltage power supplies, and other equipmentDrives a vehicle to conduct WSSC Water businessOther FunctionsPerforms other related duties as requiredWork Environment And Physical DemandsMust be able to work in inclement weather with fluctuating temperatures, climbing ladders, scaffolding, descending undergroundExposure to the hazards of working in confined places and to high voltage electrical shockRequired Knowledge, Skills, And AbilitiesThorough knowledge of the standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment of the electrical/mechanical trade and theoryThorough knowledge of electrical mechanical construction and maintenance, including installation and/or modification of all sizes of electrical conduit, cables, wires, switches, automatic starting equipment, etc.Some knowledge of electronic repair practices and methodsSkill in the use of tools and adjusting defects in electrical and mechanical systems and equipmentAbility to work from drawings, schematics and specificationsAbility to understand and effectively carry out verbal and written instructionsKnowledge of the applicable occupational hazards and safety precautionsAbility to work in inclement weather and fluctuating temperatures, climbing ladders, scaffolding, and descending underground, as well as exposure to the hazards of working in confined spaces with high voltage electricityMinimum Education, Experience RequirementsHigh School diploma or equivalent3 years' experience as an industrial electrician, including 1 year of experience in the maintenance of high voltage switchgear and substations (2.4KV up to 69KV)Substation experience should include repair and servicing equipment such as oil circuit breakers, transformers, roll out breakers and switchgear controls (protective relays)1-year experience in reading electrical one-line drawings, diagrams of high voltage substations and switchgear, and interconnecting diagrams and equipment location drawings of the same equipmentPerform electrical and mechanical maintenance on plant mechanical and electrical equipment
