Caribou Thunder is a Global Service Provider supporting a wide variety of DoD, Space, and Intelligence programs with consistent growth since inception to over 100 associates and $10M in annual sales with solid performance in 35 states across the US and 22 countries around the world.Caribou Thunder is seeking an Accountant Level 3 to process Sponsor Employee/IC 1099s, Employee Assessments, MOC/MOFA agreement tax liability processing and W2s. The office is fast paced during December to the end of January. The remaining months contain a moderate pace completing tax related tasks. The team processes an average of 723 agreements per year. The team consists of one staff officer team lead, two contractors, and two staff employees.JOB DUTIESConduct research on IRS Tax laws and regulations, update Sponsor's policies and procedures and expand their knowledge and application of internal and general financial regulations.Prepare the following financial documents:940 - UNEMPLOYMENT TAX941 - PAYROLL WITHHOLDING TAXES945 - FEDERAL ANNUITY EMPLOYEE TAX WITHHOLDINGSESTIMATED TAX PAYMENTS FOR LLCS & CORPORATIONSINCOME TAXES FOR LLCS & CORPORATIONSSTATE PROPERTY TAXESSTATE WITHHOLDINGSBUSINESS AND PROPERTY TAXResearch Sponsor regulations and IRS tax codes to assist stakeholders and mission partners with mission requirements.Analyze a situation, plan a solution, and implement the solution effectively. Resolving multi-faceted problems is a daily occurrence and the candidate will need to proactive in resolution before a problem becomes critical.Assist in the following activities:Review quarterly and estimated tax payments.Review Federal and State income tax returns.Obtain or expand knowledge of US Federal and State tax laws and regulations.Conduct research and analyze issues to assist senior staff prepare and carry out investigations into tax notices.Resolve tax related disputes.Review MOC/MOFA contracts for tax liabilities to include working with Plans and Desk Officers to coordinate on communications regarding MOFAs and responding to questions regarding the taxability of various commitments and payments.Examine existing processes and established SOPs and recommend suggestions for improving and updating workflow processes to make the processes more efficient, accurate and/or strengthen internal controls.Conduct regular presentations as part of internal training programs to staff during conferences, workshops, and financial conferences. Trainings may occur via one-on-one and group training exercises.Communicate and engage with various Sponsor entities.Travel to other Sponsor buildings is required on an infrequent basis.QUALIFICATIONSUnderstanding of Sponsor financial management system and COGNOS/Query Studio or an ability to rapidly learn the financial systems functionality.Intermediate knowledge of tax software (eg, Drake, ProSeries).Specialized training on Sponsor systems will be provided. The candidate will utilize systems SOPs to learn and become familiarized with the financial systems as well.Strong verbal and written communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate complex technical accounting and program management concepts in clear and simple terms and the ability to professionally address audience questions and concerns.Must possess the ability to align metrics to improve Agency performance. Comprehension of financial reporting comparisons and status tracking is required.Must be able to work within a close team environment in a shared office and report to a team lead.Ability to perform a variety of duties and be comfortable with change.
