The Accountant performs a variety of accounting duties, including GL reconciliation, branch transaction verification, and verification to obtain primary financial data for use in maintaining Federal Reserve records. Prepares financial reports and maintains accounting records and reports to ensure compliance to generally accepted accounting principles and credit union policy. Duties and Responsibilities Monitors, maintains, balances and records entries relating to the credit union functions in the Federal Reserve Bank. This includes automated clear house (ACH), deposit activity, wires (including international), 2900 reporting, and cash flow report updates from the associated balances. Reviews and verifies the daily branch transactions, including deposits and checks, and follows up on and corrects out of balance conditions. Reconciles assigned general ledger accounts, and researches and resolves items for reconciliation. Updates and verifies assigned financial reports for use in the monthly Board packet. Validates the accounts payable check run to ensure the records are correct. Annually evaluates, maintains, and creates (when necessary) up to date processes and procedures using organizational established format for all job functions assigned ensuring accuracy. Performs functions related to the stale dating of corporate checks to ensure the funds are refunded to the member or are including in the stale dating submission process. Monitors, reports and transmits backup withholding. Other duties as assigned. Experience Two or more years of related accounting experience, preferably in a financial institution, and a college degree. Interpersonal Skills Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential elements of the job. Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization, generally regarding routine matters for purposes of giving or obtaining information which may require some discussion. Must be able to operate a 10 key calculator by touch. Must be able to use PC spreadsheet software.
