Duties

As a IT Specialist (APPSW/DATAMGMT) at the GS-2210-12/13 level, some of your typical work assignments may include under supervision:
  • Serves as the technical expert and focal point for the database environment, including the development and organization of the databases, assessment and implementation of new technologies, and providing Information Technology with a long-term perspective on the relationship of database technology to the business opportunities facing the agency.
  • Plans, designs, implements, and maintains SQL Server databases.
  • Develop a security schema for the database environment, as well as assisting in disaster recovery. Work with the transaction processing area to develop both the physical and the logical database administration functions and assists in the development of our processing database and computing environments. Work with others in IT to build the logical database area and provide technical guidance during all phases of the development process. Work with vendors in evaluating and implementing new technologies.
  • Database Programming using RDBMS databases like SQL Server 2014, with Stored Procedures, Triggers, Functions, Views and Database Design.
  • Plan, develop, design, implement and maintain database systems. Derive unique strategies that support customer's needs, including identifying and analyzing technical problems, evaluating alternatives, developing and integrating solutions.
  • Works with Teams of Federal and Contractor Software Engineers
  • Works with IT Web Application (Hosting, Support, and Services), and Service Oriented Architectures in Federal Agencies
  • Working with Complex Federal IT Projects in a multi-vendor environment; (following CMMI principles and Federal OCIO best practices)
  • Applies hands-on database-related development including coding and debugging as assigned by higher level staff including their associated hardware/software, and various IT interfaces.
  • Assist senior IT staff to architect, design, implement, test, deploy and support new and existing software with the SSS Systems in order to meet customer requirements; providing software design and code, providing software build tools and scripts; providing design and code reviews, solving a wide range of software problems within the operational and test systems; providing assistance to customers, SSS staff, other SSS technical staff and contractors to include proactive recommendations on resolutions on issues encountered.

Qualifications

Time-in-Grade Requirements: Under competitive merit promotion procedures, any individual who is currently holding, or who has held within the previous 52 weeks, a General Schedule position under non-temporary appointment in the competitive or excepted service, must meet "time-in-grade" requirements (have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade of the grade for which you are applying). You must include an SF-50 (you may need to submit more than one) that supports meeting this requirement with your application
package.

To qualify for this position at the GS-2210-12 level, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level that includes experience: Developing a security schema for the database environment in support of agency Cyber Security policy and protocols; Designing, implementing, and maintaining SQL Server databases; and Working with IT Web Application (Hosting, Support, and Services) with Service Oriented Architectures in Federal Agencies.

To qualify for this position at the GS-2210-13 level, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level that includes experience: Serving as a lead technical expert and focal point for the custom database production, test, and developments environments; Developing a security schema for the database environment in support of agency Cyber Security policy and protocols; Planning, designing, implementing, and maintaining SQL Server databases; and Working with IT Web Application (Hosting, Support, and Services) with Service Oriented Architectures in Federal Agencies.

A combination of education and experience as listed above. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
