Tour of duty will range from 10:30 pm - 7:00 am

Major Duties Include:

- Provides supervisors feedback on employee performance, team issues/problems, recommendations for awards and performance appraisals.

- Leads the work of Custodial Workers and receives work assignments and guidelines from Custodial Worker Supervisors.

- Obtains necessary supplies and equipment for assigned jobs. Sets the pace of work, demonstrates proper work procedures, checks work in progress, and answers questions from the Supervisor and the workers.

- Performs cleaning tasks in an assigned area without instruction.

- Determines the priority of any non-routine work. Handles and controls heavy powered cleaning equipment such as wall washers, carpet cleaning machines, and buffing machines. Cleans and adjusts equipment.

- Cleans and maintains floors, walls, and ceilings. Surfaces include bronze, concrete, glass, linoleum, marble, plastic, porcelain, sandstone, stainless steel, tile, and wood.

- Uses an assortment of and specialized cleaning solutions to remove marks and stains and clean statuary and sculptured ornamentation.

- Prepares areas for cleaning by moving heavy furniture and any other items that are required to be moved.

- Takes note of any items that are not operating properly and which require repair such as inoperable lights, damaged floors or carpets and inoperable electrical outlets.

- Collects and sorts recyclable materials. Collects and disposes of wet waste materials and relines wet waste containers. Cleans recycling containers.

To be employed by the Architect of the Capitol in a paid position, an individual must meet one of the categories below:
  • A citizen of the United States;
  • A person who is lawfully admitted for permanent residence and is seeking citizenship as outlined in 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)(B);
  • A person who is admitted as a refugee under 8 U.S.C. 1157 or is granted asylum under 8 U.S.C. 1158 and has filed a declaration of intention to become a lawful permanent resident and then a citizen when eligible;
  • A person who owes allegiance to the United States (nationals of American Samoa, Swains Island, and the Northern Mariana Islands, and nationals who meet other requirements described in 8 U.S.C. 1408); or
  • A person who is currently an officer or employee of the Government of the United States.
