Duties

• Provide technical direction to flight research projects involving advanced control technology and integrated control algorithms.
• Determine, recommend and prepare projects for Center advocacy, including documentation and presentations.
• Direct a broad range of inter-disciplinary development and design activities of Guidance Navigation and Control (GNC) equipment. Make recommendations and implement actions for technical problems.
• Plan and establish overall outline for design and development of proposed technology, equipment, or systems as well as publish technical data and develop scientifically based standards for engineering application.
• Utilize Attitude Control and Stabilization (ACS) Components for testing and will be seen as an expert authority in planning and conducting investigations and tests and evaluating equipment, components, or systems.
• Plan and coordinate projects in unexplored areas where there is little or no theory so new techniques and approaches are needed.
• Develop and direct the development of aerospace engineering analysis standards for projects or systems.
• Serve as senior technical contact and/or Contracting Officer's Technical Representative (COTR).

Qualifications

In addition to the basic education requirement (shown below), you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above.

To qualify for GS-14, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level overseeing Aerospace Product Development; providing technical advice and guidance in the design and development of state-of-the-art space flight components such as, but not limited to guidance, navigation, and control systems; developing project budgets, schedules, and plans that establish parameters for fabrication, alignment, and assembly of aerospace flight components and electromechanical assemblies used in space flight environments.

Education

You must have successfully completed a bachelor's or graduate degree with a major in either a) engineering from a college or university that has ABET accredited engineering programs or b) Physical Science, Mathematics, Life Science, Computer Science*, or other field of physical science.
*Note: Curriculum must include 30 semester hours of course work in a combination of mathematics, statistics and computer science. Of the 30 semester hours, 15 must be in any combination of statistics and mathematics which includes differential and integral calculus.

Degrees in engineering technology are not considered to be qualifying for this position.
