Duties

  • Serving as primary point of contact for customers for the Federal Employees Health Benefits (FEHB) Program.
  • Answering incoming telephone calls and correspondence.
  • Providing direct responses to specific inquiries regarding the programs.
  • Tracking and processing disputed claim appeals within the Groups that administer FEHB Program contracts.
  • Performing automation support activities and administrative support tasks.

  • Due to COVID-19, the agency is currently in an expanded telework posture. If selected, you may be expected to temporarily telework, even if your home is located outside the local commuting area. Once employees are permitted to return to the office, you will be expected to report to the duty station listed on this announcement within 45 days. At that time, you may be eligible to request to continue to telework one or more days a pay period depending upon the terms of the agency's telework policy.
  • As required by Executive Order 14043, Federal executive branch employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 regardless of the employee's duty location or work arrangement (e.g., telework, remote work, etc.), subject to such exceptions as required by law. If selected, you will be required to be vaccinated against COVID-19 and submit documentation of proof of vaccination by November 22, 2021 or before appointment or onboarding with the agency (if later than November 22, 2021). The agency will provide additional information regarding which forms of documentation can be accepted and how you can request a legally required exception from this requirement.

  • Suitable for Federal employment, determined by a background investigation
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period


Qualifications

For the GS-06: You must have at least one year of specialized experience which is equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the GS-5 level in the Federal Service that demonstrates all of the following: a) Researching, analyzing, and drafting responses to disputed claim appeals and/or customer service inquiries; b) Using automated systems to enter or retrieve data in support of healthcare programs and activities.; c) Serving as a point of contact for Federal Employee Health Benefits information; d) Reviewing healthcare records to resolve discrepancies; and e)Meeting and dealing with the public on health benefits and/or health insurance-related matters

For the GS-07: You must have at least one year of specialized experience which is equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the GS-6 level in the Federal Service that demonstrates all of the following: a) Researching, analyzing and developing responses to complex or unusual health benefits-related customer service inquiries; b) Using automated systems to develop letters and reports, and enter or retrieve data supporting health benefits and/or health insurance-related activities; c) Serving as a point of contact for Federal Employee Health Benefits information; and d) Assisting the public with health benefits and/or health insurance-related matters.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Additional information

Relocation expenses will not be paid. Current OPM employees may qualified as an exception.
