Position Information
The Compliance Division of the Tre asurers' Office is seeking an innovative and technologically savvy Research and Special Collections Coordinator. As an elected official, the Arlington County Treasurer is accountable to the citizens of Arlington County. The primary function of the Compliance Division is to promptly and efficiently collect monies owed to Arlington County by investigating delinquent accounts and obtaining payment.

Specific duties include:

  • Identifying, researching and resolving disputed accounts and complex collection cases;
  • Managing and coordinating collection efforts for County agencies;
  • Evaluating processes for efficiency and effectiveness;
  • Identifying training needs to include designing and implementing training ;
  • Creating, managing and testing system upgrades;
  • Communicating effectively and delivering excellent customer service, both verbally and written to taxpayers, staff and other County agencies;
  • Assisting with the management of Virginia Department of Taxation Set Off Debt Program;
  • Assisting the Research and Special Collections Unit; and
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate will complete tasks with minimal supervision, have strong interpersonal skills, and ability to deal with a diverse group of customers.

Selection Criteria
Minimum:

  • Bachelor's degree in public administration, business administration or related field; and
  • One (1) year of experience in public administration, including performing program support functions or duties directly related to program area.
Substitution: Additional qualifying experience may substitute for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Desirables: Preference may be given to applicants with experience in one or more of the following:

  • Working directly with the public explaining policies and/or tax regulations to customers;
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish); and
  • Using Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.

Special Requirements
A pre-hire background check will be made on all candidates who are selected for employment. It may include checks of the following: criminal record, driving record, education, professional licensure, and credit history. You may be required to sign a release authorizing the County to obtain your background information.
