We are in search of an Employment Specialist for Career Training Programs who will work with the career training program leaders and students under the direct supervision of the Vice- Principal/Workforce Program Lead. The Employment Specialist is responsible for ensuring that each student from the assigned training program is employment ready, has placement options in the industry of the training program in which the student is enrolled or has been offered post- secondary education options after training in the program if that should be their choice. The Employment Specialist is also responsible for developing industry related partnerships that guide employers’ readiness to employ workforce program students that have received all the necessary certifications according to the career training path they are enrolled in. Finally, the Employment Specialist is responsible for referring the student to the appropriate services within the Student Services Department or elsewhere in the school to eliminate any barrier to her/his taking advantage of the educational opportunities the School has to offer.

Responsibilities:

●  Achieve or exceed goals set forth by the school as they pertain to job placement, recruitment, employment readiness workshops to career training students, maintain pertinent data, and providing required follow-up services

●  Provides individual and group advisement to assist students in the career and academic exploration and career decision making process

●  Coordinates with all parties involved (in the academic and student services areas) to enhance and optimize the student’s learning experience by identifying any potential barriers to learning or achieving the student’s career plan and refers the student to the appropriate department or person for support for their needs

●  Facilitates the job readiness process, including resume and smart plan review, cover letter and other job-readiness elements such as interviewing skills and general success skills training for the students enrolled in the career training classes

●  Supports training program Directors/Leads in their outreach and recruitment efforts by representing the training program in external job and academic fairs as well as career training information sessions.

●  Develops partnerships with local employers and organizations to expand opportunities for students in relation to post-secondary education, internships, and employment.

●  Offers the student job placements in the industry of the student’s training program as needed and upon becoming certified in their field

●  Remain current and knowledgeable in Department of Labor regulations, industry related information, and keep abreast of job market trends.

●  Collaborate with the Student Services Department to exchange relevant information on the students such as employment, post-secondary, or any other behavioral concerns.

●  Coordinates the post-secondary education enrollment process, with Student Services Student Success Team including career coaching and exploration, credential evaluation, assistance with applications, scholarships, and financial aid.

●  Maintains and update career training and/or occupation data in the SIS and/or Career Training Databases for school wide reporting (PMF, Strategic Plan, Annual Report) purposes and assists with the preparation of Advisory Committee meetings

●  Provides support on initiatives and projects for students as needed

Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

●  Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resources, Social work, or related field with a minimum of 2-3 years of experience or appropriate combination of education and experience

●  Bilingual (Spanish/English or Amharic/English preferred)

●  Well-versed in digital research tools and diverse position-related software

●  Outstanding interpersonal communication skills

●  Strong research skills

●  Ability to work independently and as a team member.

●  Ability to work two evenings a week

●  May be asked to work on a Saturday or Sunday to attend an event

●  Must be able to provide proof of completed Covid-19 vaccination
