Duties

  • Provide insight into the development and management of policies, procedures, and operational schedules necessary for new engineering systems and functions.
  • Maintain surveillance of schedule milestones for all project systems and all activities within or outside NASA which may affect the programmed costs, acceptance, or completion date of the project.
  • Recognize management and business problems that arise in the development of complex space flight systems and devise and execute effective solutions to these problems.
  • Prepare ad hoc technical analyses and recommendations.
  • Participate in project, program or NASA Headquarters initiatives and analysis to develop major budget options and plans which will meet program and project objectives.
  • Assist the Project Manager and Deputy Project Manager/Resources with interpretation of budget guidance and guidelines.
  • Assure proficiency and compliance with the provisions of contracts by reviewing and verifying the performance of work by the contractor.

Qualifications

In addition to the basic education requirement, you must have one year of specialized experience described below, which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above.

To qualify for the Flight Projects Development Program, you must have been competitively selected and currently serving at the GS-14 or GS-15 grade level providing leadership in and communicating technical information about aerospace designs, development, planning and analyses for project resources, objectives budget and schedule.

Education

You must have successfully completed a bachelor's or graduate degree with a major in either a) engineering from a college or university that has ABET accredited engineering programs or b) Physical Science, Mathematics, Life Science, Computer Science*, or other field of physical science.
*Note: Curriculum must include 30 semester hours of course work in a combination of mathematics, statistics and computer science. Of the 30 semester hours, 15 must be in any combination of statistics and mathematics which includes differential and integral calculus.

Degrees in engineering technology are not considered to be qualifying for this position.

Additional information

As required by Executive Order 14043 , Federal employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 regardless of the employee's duty location or work arrangement (e.g., telework, remote work, etc.), subject to such exceptions as required by law.
