Associate, Specialty Underwriting & Portfolio Management

Summary

Seeking detail-oriented professional to support management of portfolio of commercial loans and affiliated bank relationships within the Financial Institutions Group. The Associate will work closely with the origination, underwriting and legal teams on new loan closings and will thereafter maintain ongoing responsibility for borrower performance monitoring, general loan compliance and risk assessment in accordance with COF standards. The Associate is expected to contribute to amendments, modifications and restructuring of existing credit facilities and work closely with senior members in portfolio management and underwriting within the Financial Institutions Group. The Associate will help supervise the day to day work of the Portfolio Analyst.

Responsibilities

● Collaborate with new business to transition prospects to clients via the loan closing process. Assist in the review and approval of loan documentation to ensure the documents meet agreed upon business terms and Capital One credit approval guidelines prior to closing and funding.

● Monitor and enforce ongoing Borrower compliance with all loan terms and documentation, including periodic draws under revolving lines of credit.

● Review periodic collateral reporting (borrowing base) for data integrity and compliance.

● Track financial and collateral performance of the Borrower through monitoring trends, cash flow analysis, key economic indicators and industry specific data.

● Identify and mitigate transaction risks. Determine the proper risk rating for all facilities in accordance with policy guidelines and complete the required documentation for any subsequent rating changes, including annual reviews.

● Assist in underwriting and closing of facility renewals, amendments, restructurings and extensions, as needed. Complete credit approval documents as required.

● Facilitate internal and external credit and portfolio reporting. Communicate directly with senior management as to the performance of the portfolio.

● Perform on-site due diligence, as applicable.

● Understand and promote bank products.

● Maintain and promote client relationships.

● Understand and employ all policies and procedures of the Bank. Remain up-to-date on all bank compliance regulatory policies and procedures and on all pending and proposed regulatory changes affecting bank compliance.

● Research industries and market conditions in connection with financial/credit analysis.

Basic Qualifications

● Bachelors Degree in Finance or Accounting

● At least 3 years of commercial finance, auditing or other financial analysis experience

● Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred Qualifications

● Bachelors Degree in Finance or Accounting (CPA or MBA a plus)

● 5+ years of commercial finance, auditing or other financial analysis experience

● Commercial Credit training

● Advanced Excel skills

● Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate in a concise and clear manner with clients and internally, both orally and in writing
