Unit Financial Analyst

The George Mason University, College of Health & Human Services, is launching a search for four Financial Analysts to assist in four different departments within the college.

About the Position:

The purpose of this position is to support the College's financial operation by overseeing the day-to-day expenditure activities across E&G, external/indirect, and Foundation funds, assisting with expenditure budgeting, position control, compliance, accounting and purchasing, non-personnel coordination, and creating necessary processes and procedures to ensure smooth operations. The incumbent is responsible for creating and providing expenditure analysis reports to manage the College's expenditures and aid decisions of investment/budget allocation.

Responsibilities:


  • The Financial Analyst will monitor departmental operating funds;
  • Prepare, track and reconcile all departmental financial requests;
  • In collaboration with CHHS Office of Research, CHHS Finance and Administration, GMU Foundation and GMU Office of Sponsored Programs, work to support reconciliation of PI and departmental budgets;
  • In collaboration with CHHS Office of Research, assist faculty PIs with support and reconciliation of externally funded project budgets;
  • Analyze department level data on enrollment and tuition;
  • Work with CHHS Office of Finance and Administration to initiate queries and data acquisition for a variety of functions;
  • Monitor the Education & General state Orgs/Funds and indirect spending for the unit to ensure budget availability and compliance;
  • Identify, analyze and resolve financial issues using sound judgment and effective communication with central offices;
  • Maintain financial records that comply with audit standards;
  • Analyze financial data and generate reports to assist the unit leader with financial planning;
  • Assists unit leader and faculty with proposals for education, training, administration and research. This includes extracting data from GMU systems for education, enrollment, and proposal development;
  • Assist unit leader in the management and budget planning for the fiscal year;
  • Provides budget forecasts for Education & General Funding, Sponsored programs funding and GMU foundation funding; and
  • Complete purchasing tasks for units and PIs as needed.


Required Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, business, accounting or related field OR equivalent combination of education and/or experience;
  • Demonstrated experience with budgets and budget administration or equivalent;
  • Proficiency with Excel, Word and PowerPoint;
  • Ability to synthesize financial data from multiple sources;
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills; and
  • Ability to maintain positive, collegial relationships with colleagues and University contacts.


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Prior experience working with databases preferred (preferably with systems currently used at Mason such as Banner and MicroStrategy);
  • Experience with budget planning, development of financial processes, monitoring revenue and expenditures;
  • Salary information is processed in this position so experience in handling confidential data is highly preferred;
  • Experience with a large, public, institution of higher education preferred;
  • Mason experience; and
  • Grants and contracts experience.
