Job Announcement

Performs responsible specialized administrative tasks pertaining to police communications and facility security duties at the Warrant Operations Desk. The Warrant Operations Desk staff is considered “essential personnel”. It is a 24/7 operation that keeps track of various types of arrest documents and documentation. Must have a strong attention to detail and able to keep accurate records and reports. Must also be a reliable, self-starter and able to work in a small team setting and require minimal supervision. Additionally, since the Warrant Operations Desk is a vital point of contact for community members, police agencies, sheriff’s and PSTOC personnel, as well as the courts, must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Also performs additional duties and responsibilities as required by the managers and supervisors.

Illustrative Duties

  • On a rotating shift basis, processes warrants, verifies data for requesting personas and prepares supplements to warrants;
  • Contacts police departments, local and out-of-state, concerning outstanding warrants;
  • Responds to front desk inquires by retrieving case records, etc., in an expeditious manner;
  • Maintains security and safety of station and property or evidence received;
  • Maintains record of runaways, juvenile detention papers, and escape warrants from mental institutions;
  • Responds to telephone callers and walk-in clients at the police station;
  • Responds to Teletype messages from Public Safety Communications Center concerning complaints or incidents;
  • Distributes incoming correspondence to appropriate personnel;
  • Accesses, queries, and updates various automated information systems to obtain necessary data requested by law enforcement personnel;
  • Composes and completes routine correspondence, special reports and documents, including search warrants and affidavits.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience and training equivalent to graduation from high school or possession of a GED issued by a state department of education; plus two years of experience performing clerical and/or police communications work, including one year of experience equivalent to Police Citizen Aide I.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Familiarity with computerized data systems Police Department procedures. Experience using Computer Assisted Dispatching (CAD) system, I/LEADS, and Microsoft Office software. Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and to Multi-Task. Strong attention to detail.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
  • Driver's license (required)
  • VCIN -VA Criminal Information Network- Required within 12 months and recertify every 24 months

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
All newly hired employees are required to be fully vaccinated as a condition of employment or obtain approval of a medical or religious exemption prior to their start date. Proof of an exemption or vaccination status will be required during the pre-employment onboarding process. New employees who obtain an exemption from the vaccine mandate for medical or religious reasons will still be subject to the weekly testing requirement. Otherwise, vaccinated employees will complete the attestation online in the first day of employment.

The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, credit check, driver's record check, and polygraph exam to the satisfaction of the employer.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must have the ability to move, lift and carry a minimum of 15 pounds. Must have the ability to sit and stand for long periods of time. All duties may be performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
