Lead Software Engineer (Node.js) - Capital One Shopping

Who We Are :

We are a lean, purpose driven group that's growing rapidly and looking for strong engineering talent. In this role, you would help us deliver innovative features to millions of customers and thousands of merchant partners. We're a group of passionate engineers that collaborates closely to solve internet scale problems across our stack, including Node, React, PostgreSQL, Cassandra and Kafka all running on top of AWS. Within the Shopping space, we have opportunities across our teams for strong engineers to contribute to our systems and data processes that power our customer experiences across our product offerings. These areas deliver an incredible amount of value to our customers and generate strong revenue for the company and as such, the potential for growth within this space presents a unique opportunity.

Who are you:
  • You are an experienced full stack engineer who enjoys both leading projects and being an technical expert as it relates to backend development.
  • You execute well with a high degree of individual ownership, but are also adept working as part of a team
  • You're interested in the new developments of the open source community
  • You collaborate with your peers to deliver high-quality and customer impacting solutions


What you'll do:
  • Work with product owners to understand desired initiatives and implement application capabilities
  • Contribute to the web platform, codebase, and developer experience that supports capitaloneshopping.com and other internal initiatives
  • Lead the creation of features and system enhancements from technical design through production deployment and support to ensure a fast and reliable experience for our customers
  • Encourage innovation, implementation of cutting-edge technologies, inclusion, outside-of-the-box thinking, teamwork, self-organization, and diversity

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least 7 years of experience in Software Engineering
  • At least 4 years of experience with Node.js
  • At least 2 years of experience with Relational and NoSQL databases
  • At least 1 year of experience with Cloud Native technologies (Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform)


Preferred Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience developing web applications using JavaScript
  • 2+ years experience in people leadership
  • Experience with Cassandra or PostgreSQL
  • Experience developing cloud native services
  • Experience using modern build and deployment tools such as Jenkins, Docker, etc.
