Position Information
Arlington's County is seeking an experienced Executive Assistant/Office Manager to provide administrative and legal support to the staff of the County Attorney's office. This position will be responsible for the day-to-day management of a law office, including the supervision of other administrative staff and the oversight of all administrative functions with the office. Additionally, this position will provide specialized legal support to attorneys in the County Attorney's Office, with an emphasis on administrative support to the County Attorney and Deputy County Attorney.

The County Attorney's Office provides legal advice to, and representation of, the County Board, all county executive agencies and departments and all County employees in civil matters.

Specific responsibilities include:
  • Serving as liaison to other County Departments as well as the general public;
  • Overseeing law office case management and records management systems and processes;
  • Collaborating with attorneys regarding legal matters including drafting documents, interfacing with outside counsel, law firms, legal consultants, judges, clerks of court and expert witnesses;
  • Preparing budget documentation and reports, handling the preparation of payroll and other vouchers, and tracking external consultant payments;
  • Overseeing the technological and other supply needs of the office;
  • Acting as office HR liaison;
  • Providing support in recruitment, hiring, and onboarding process;
  • Managing calendars, meetings, and correspondence for County Attorney and Deputy County Attorney; and
  • Other duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate will have the following:
  • Absolute professionalism when dealing with people of varying backgrounds and positions, including but not limited to members of the general public, department heads, attorneys, court personnel, outside counsel, and opposing counsel; and
  • Flexibility to work in a fast-moving office.

Selection Criteria
Minimum: Bachelor's degree in public administration, business administration or other related field, or liberal arts degree, plus three years of experience providing administrative support in a legal environment or serving as an office manager.

Substitutions: Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Desirable: Preference will be given to applicants with one or more of the following experience:
  1. Performing program support functions in budgeting, payroll, personnel and/or other coordination of staff functions;
  2. Paralegal or law office management;
  3. Designing and implementing legal office systems in a law office; and
  4. Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Power Point, Access and Outlook.
