Interested in a dynamic and challenging geomatics job assignment with key responsibilities for America's Subway?

Washington Metro is seeking a well-rounded and experienced land survey engineer to direct and advise survey field crews, perform survey computations, review property records, as well as prepare exhibits involving operational, system construction and joint development projects. Candidates Will be proficient at using a variety of state-of-the-art survey instrumentation (e.g. robotic total stations, lidar scanners, and auto levels) and supporting software technologies. Utilizing the same, candidates will be experienced at performing and processing a variety of survey tasks such as horizontal and vertical control surveys, structural as-built surveys and property boundary surveys. Much of this work will be day shift work with occasional night shift and overtime work requirements.

Minimum Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in land surveying, science, mathematics or engineering and at least five (5) years of experience as a survey party chief or survey computer in a rapid transit heavy construction environment including at least three years of experience in executing complex survey and related engineering computations using advanced computers; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience.

License:

Possession of a valid motor vehicle's license issued from the jurisdiction of residence.

Medical Group :

Ability to satisfactorily complete the medical examination for this job. Must be able to perform the essential functions for this job either with or without reasonable accommodation(s).

Job Summary/Duties:

This is specialized technical construction work of a difficult and complex nature. Assists in the management of the Surveying and Computational Services contract. Assists in the planning, scheduling, initiating, and coordinating of the survey contractor's operations. Reduces survey field notes into final format, verifies technical accuracy of survey contractor's computations and performs other computations as required to support design and construction. Performs contract administration tasks such as processing pay estimates, drafting interoffice memoranda and correspondence to the survey contractor, and maintaining survey contract files. Performs duties under the direction of the Assistant Manager, Lab/Survey who assesses performance on the basis of completed assignments, reports, daily contact, and the accuracy of computational results.

Reviews the procedures, equipment, operations and schedules proposed by the survey contractor to verify that accurate survey results will be produced in a timely and efficient manner. Assists in coordinating the survey contractor's execution of approved surveys. Reviews survey results for technical accuracy. Maintains survey records and electronic databases.

Reduces survey field notes and performs all calculations related to generating final survey results. Performs calculations with an advanced CADD work station using CEAL and AUTOCAD software and associated supporting software modules and peripheral computer equipment.

Verifies that survey related contract as-built supplied by construction contractor reflect field conditions.

Interfaces with hardware and software vendors as needed to resolve computational problems and program deficiencies.

Advises the Assistant Manager, Lab/Survey of survey related action that should be recommended to the Resident Engineers for use in directing their contractors.

Assists in coordinating required survey checks on assigned projects.

Assists survey contractor personnel and Resident Engineer staff in interpretation and/or clarification of contract drawings and specifications as related to survey requirements.

Prepares survey services contract payment estimates for processing. Participates in scheduling meetings, draft meeting minutes, prepares and distributes schedule and progress reports.

Processes incoming and outgoing correspondence to include designating items for action. Drafts correspondence for Assistant Manager, Lab/Survey signature.

Reviews and processes WMATA field survey requests for clarity and completeness. Reviews and processes survey contractor's work tickets for accuracy.

Establishes and maintains Construction Post Construction Survey contract files.

Performs related duties as required.
