Graduate Program Coordinator

George Mason University Office of Graduate Education seeks a Graduate Program Coordinator to assist the Graduate Education Manager with the coordination of central internal scholarships, fellowships, and awards for graduate students. About the Department:

The Office of Graduate Education supports Mason graduate programs and ensures the academic success of more than 10,800 graduate students while upholding the quality and rigor of graduate education at Mason. Our office, in conjunction with academic units and partners across our campuses, undertakes a myriad of functions to provide this support. These include facilitating curricular enhancements, administering graduate policies and procedures, and providing internal and external funding opportunities. As students join Mason's graduate programs, the office collaborates with Graduate Student Life, Career Services, and the Stearns Center for Teaching and Learning to provide a community of support and growth that enables them to develop the professional skills and relationships needed to thrive while at Mason, become prepared for their future career, and respond to market demands and needs.


The Graduate Program Coordinator will be responsible for:
  • Working directly with the Graduate Education Manager on all central awards, grants, fellowships, and scholarships as well as graduate student travel fund and subsidized health insurance;
  • Assisting the Graduate Education Manger with monitoring and tracking program and special project expenditures to ensure adequate funding throughout the year;
  • Serving as a key team member of the Office of Graduate Education and assist in all matters related to the operations of graduate funding;
  • Maintaining and update the Graduate Education relevant webpages; and
  • Providing excellent customer services in a calm and professional manner to all key graduate stakeholders and constituents.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school degree or higher or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Experience in a fast-paced executive office, professional environment;
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) experience;
  • Oral and written communication skills;
  • Strong desire to work with graduate students, faculty and administrators from a wide range of disciplines and schools;
  • Skills in time management and attention to details;
  • Skills in maintaining and updating relevant webpages;
  • Skills in operating applicable office equipment and software, such as MS Office and Adobe products, other software packages required to carry out the functions of the office;
  • Ability to work both as a team member and independently;
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task, meet deadlines, and work in a professional setting;
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service to students, staff, and faculty; and
  • Adhere to University policies and procedures to meet Institutional goals and support the University's mission for graduate student academic success.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 5 years of related experience;
  • Experience working in Higher Education and three or more years of related work experience; and
  • Knowledge in higher education software and tools (e.g., Banner, MicroStrategy, Ellucian Workflow, etc.).
