Graduate Professional Assistant of OutreachThe George Mason University, Mason Recreation Department invites applications for the Graduate Professional Assistant of Outreach. George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason's academic and culturally inclusive environment.About Mason Recreation:Mason Recreation oversees three facilities on the Fairfax campus of George Mason University including the Recreation Athletic Complex (RAC), the Aquatic Fitness Center (AFC), and Skyline Fitness Center. These facilities boast four gymnasiums, racquetball/squash courts, several locker rooms, fitness galleries and dedicated rooms for yoga, cycling, group exercise, and marital arts/self-defense classes. We house and maintain a recreation and competition pool, sauna, whirlpool, and several exterior facilities including a pavilion, turf and grass fields, jogging/walking trails, and a team challenge course on our Science and Technology Campus. We provide the following programs and services for the campus community: Fitness, Aquatics, Outdoor Adventures, Intramural Sports, Club Sports, the EDGE (team building programming), as well as a Summer Youth Camp. Remuneration: Graduate Assistant position will consist of a $26,400 compensation package that includes a minimum stipend payment of $16,800. The remaining compensation will be applied towards tuition, evenly distributed between the Fall and Spring semesters. The position will be from August 10, 2022 to May 9, 2023, and is eligible for renewal upon mutual agreement. Responsibilities: Work closely with Assistant Director of Business Services and the University Life Shared Services Marketing team to coordinate promotional and outreach needs for all areas within Mason Recreation;Assist the department in transitioning from an independent to a divisional shared services marketing model;Oversee departmental social media accounts (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube, Mason 360, etc.); Assist with outreach area staff oversight, work closely with supervisor in developing work schedules, inventory, and maintenance of equipment;Plan and execute outreach staff meetings in conjunction with supervisor;Assist departmental staff with the divisional marketing request and project management system; Assist with departmental newsletters, articles, and other writing projects;Assist with website updates and content;Maintain Departmental bulletin boards and digital displays and ensure that signage is up-to-date in each facility;Provide supplemental graphic design support to departmental projects;Attend and represent department at tabling and promotional events, on- and off-campus when needed (may include weekend and evening events);Assist with special campus events, departmental events, and civic engagement programs;Assist with the development and generation of new outreach concepts, mediums, and ideas;Facilitate periodic communication with departmental staff to determine needs and monitor progress;Perform additional tasks for the Business Services area related to memberships, sponsorship, alumni engagement, and fiscal management; andAssist with assessment initiatives and data collection for analysis. Expectations: Work designated office hours, as approved by supervisor; Dress and act in professional manner; Be present and engage at bi-weekly staff meetings; Represent department and university to the highest standards at all times; Possess strong supervisory and leadership skills, as well as excellent interpersonal skills; andBe willing to learn, eager to help, and ready to have fun as a member of the Mason Nation. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required from an accredited college or university. Preference will be given to candidates specializing in marketing, communication, public relations, advertising, art, or a related field; Candidates must possess an academic background which will satisfy the graduate entrance requirements of George Mason University; Graduate Assistants must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours each semester and maintain a 3.0 GPA; This position requires a minimum commitment of 20 hours per week; Duties may require weekend or evening hours; andMust be able to become CPR/ First Aid/ AED certified for first responder within 6 weeks of employment. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in advertising, marketing, assessment, strategic planning or public relations; andExperience with Adobe Creative Suite and/ or photo or video editing.
