Job Description

Arc XP is a cloud-based digital experience platform that helps enterprise companies, retail brands and media and entertainment organizations create and distribute content, drive digital commerce, and deliver powerful multichannel experiences. A division of The Washington Post, Arc XP has powered the digital transformation of customers across the globe, currently serving over 1,900 sites in more than 25 countries that reach nearly 2 billion unique visitors monthly.

As the head of the product design team at Arc XP, you will shape the future of our business and consumer facing products by leading our design and user research practice. You will work closely with Product Directors to define product strategy, vision, and collaborate on the roadmap - both influencing and planning for upcoming work. While growing and supporting a team of amazing product designers and researchers focused on building high-quality, meaningful user experiences, you will help strengthen and evangelize the Arc XP Design System, develop strong client relationships, and build a collaborative user-centered design culture.

This is currently a team of 7 product designers and 1 researcher. We have headquarters in Chicago and Washington DC, but offer a remote-friendly work environment.

Responsibilities
  • Manage and develop a quickly-growing team of talented designers by recruiting, nurturing and retaining best-in-class talent - all within the context of a quickly scaling business where roles and process will need to be defined by you.
  • Support high-level product strategy, ensuring we're asking the right questions and solving for distinct needs.
  • Work closely with Product Management and Engineering to deliver stunning and effective work, quickly, properly scoped and at a high level of quality.
  • Own application interfaces for the entirety of the Arc XP SaaS Platform suite.
  • Collaborate closely with product managers (PMs) to find opportunities for new products/features and validate assumptions through user testing and research.
  • Working with individual product teams to increase their UX and design maturity.
  • Influence and compellingly communicate the product vision to a wide variety of key stakeholders while building strong partnerships across disciplines, such as Product, Engineering, and Marketing.
  • Evangelize design system guidelines and design patterns.

Qualifications
  • Managed an entire product lifecycle from concept to release.
  • 12+ years of experience designing and delivering products in cross-functional teams from start to finish.
  • 5+ years of product design management experience.
  • BA/BS or MA/MS in design-related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Excel at both written and spoken communication.
  • The ability to thrive in a fast-paced, highly collaborative, agile environment, while also leading process improvement efforts.
  • Deep understanding of user-centered design methods and best practices - and you're always looking to improve on your process.
  • A strong passion for managing and mentoring designers and researchers, developing their skills and careers.
  • Power to influence others and build consensus, while dealing with ambiguity.
  • Experience using analytics, user research, and other approaches to help make decisions and iterate on the product.
  • Expert knowledge of design tools, such as Figma.
  • Experience with SaaS CMS or enterprise SaaS software is preferred.
