Manager, Corporate Banking Credit Risk Function

Capital One's Commercial Credit Officer organization, housed within the Commercial Credit Risk and Analytics (CR&A) Division, is responsible for evaluating the risk implications of credit strategy and for oversight of credit within the existing portfolio and any new credit investments for the Commercial Bank, this includes transaction approvals, portfolio monitoring, and risk escalation. Credit practitioners are expected to serve as balanced decision makers, not advocates of growth, encouraging vigorous debate on credit strategies and on specific lending proposals.

The team is entrusted with protecting Capital One's Commercial Bank and providing expert credit risk guidance to the lines of business. The team's contribution is critical in screening business opportunities, evaluating market, segment, and loan performance, and ultimately funding business ventures.

The Corporate Banking Credit Risk function is seeking Manager level associates to join the team as a Credit Analyst. Specific accountabilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Supporting Credit Officers in the risk evaluation of complex credits, new deals, and renewals
  • Analyzing credit and market data to identify and mitigate risk
  • Reviewing underwriting packages (annual reviews and credit approvals for completeness and key risks
  • Performing industry research and competitive analysis, including deep dives on areas of concern to flag high risk level loans
  • Supporting and effectively communicating a position on credit, the markets, and risk
  • Monitoring portfolio to identify trends and conduct forward looking analysis
  • Formulating and implementing solutions, leveraging technology as much as possible e.g., use data to prepopulate credit approval documents
  • Demonstrating our values of Excellence and Do the Right Thing while supporting our journey to Change Banking for Good

The Credit Analyst will be an instrumental player in the Credit Officer organization, supporting and learning from Credit Officers on complex credits, with the potential to develop multiple specialties across supported industries. Core competencies for the ideal candidate include:
  • Strategic and analytic orientation - a proven track record of decision making and problem-solving based on available data
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, coupled with strategic influencing skills and the ability to drive agreement through intellect, interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • Highly collaborative orientation and strong team player who places the best interests of the organization above personal objectives
  • Learning agility and critical thinking with a keen ability to identify risk trends and a hunger for continuous learning in a challenging market environment
  • Ability to establish credibility, trust and support within all levels of the organization
  • Aptitude for synthesizing complex issues into a clear and concise summary
  • Experience in accounting and financial statement analysis
  • Proactive and results-oriented
