Director, Enterprise Brand Insights

Capital One's Brand Department is seeking a Market Research Director with significant strength in building and leading teams that are able to identify and clearly communicate high leverage insights that inform business/marketing strategy decisions. In close partnership with key marketing partners (e.g., Brand/Marketing Strategy, Advertising, Media, etc.), this insights group is responsible for research inclusive of Brand Health Tracking, Mass Media Creative Testing, the Tech/Digital LOB Product Marketing Learning Agenda, and the Enterprise Brand Strategy Learning Agenda. As a result, the person in this role has the opportunity to influence brand building strategy at Capital One, as well as go-to-market strategies/tactics for various LOBs and campaigns.

The ideal candidate for this role is.....
  • Grounded in market research fundamentals - well versed in a wide range of research methodologies, including a deep understanding of what is required to get quality insights tied to key business questions/hypotheses
  • An influential, evidenced based marketer - impacts the thinking of senior leaders by developing learning agendas and presentations that are reflective of a deep understanding of the marketing planning process and the associated decisions partners are trying to make
  • A great people leader - is inclusive, brings a positive attitude, provides clear direction, helps associates achieve their goals, provides opportunities for people to improve their skills, and is able to navigate a matrixed organization
  • A curious and passionate advocate for the consumer - someone who loves understanding people, their attitudes, needs, and behaviors
  • Well managed - drives projects to completion, manages a large budget, prioritizes across multiple requests and occasionally shifting goals, and appropriately leverages, and provides transparency to, leadership
  • A creative problem solver with great judgement - develops solutions grounded in the needs and circumstances of the situation...is not a hammer looking for a nail


What you'll do
  • Lead the team in developing prioritized learning agendas designed to inform key business & marketing decisions
  • Develop, and clearly present, grounded points of view on new research opportunities
  • Guide the team in developing research methodologies to answer critical questions
  • Share insights with senior leaders to influence key decisions
  • Create an environment of transparency, personal growth, and collaboration across the team
  • Maintain a network of influence and support with key business/marketing partners
  • Manage the staffing and structure of the team to both achieve objectives and help associates develop in their career
  • Travel for in-person meetings as necessary (historically, approximately 10-20% of the time) generally between Richmond and McLean, VA and only when safe.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree or military experience
  • At least 10 years of experience in marketing research, consumer insights, marketing strategy, or a combination
  • At least 5 years of experience managing a team of researchers
  • At least 3 years experience on the client side in a marketing research or strategy role


Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Market Research, Marketing, Physical or Social Science
  • Master's degree in Business, Market Research, Marketing, or a Physical or Social Science
  • 4+ years experience in a marketing strategy or brand management role
  • 11+ years of experience in a marketing research or consumer insights role
  • 7+ years experience managing a team of researchers or strategists
  • 5+ years experience on the client side in a marketing research or strategy role
