Assistant Director of DevelopmentThe College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) is seeking an Assistant Director of Development. Reporting to the Director of Advancement, the Assistant Director (AD) will be integral to effective prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship and raising of philanthropic funds to support the work of the college.George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason's academic and culturally inclusive environment.About the Department:The mission of the College of Education and Human Development's Office of Development and Alumni Relations is to support the faculty, staff and students of the College by ensuring an active and engaged alumni base, by securing necessary philanthropic support, and by creating a robust awareness of our programs and opportunities with our external communities. The department is responsible for all aspects of College fundraising which includes the successful discovery, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of all donors. About the Position: The Assistant Director is responsible for overseeing annual giving, alumni relations, cultivation programming, stewardship, development communications, and specialized fundraising projects and events. The Assistant Director will serve as the primary persuasive writer for CEHD advancement and work to build relationships with friends, parents, students, and particularly alumni through events and other various forms of outreach. This position will also actively cultivate and solicit a small portfolio of annual fund donors. Responsibilities: Produce all annual giving communications such as direct mail, case statements, brochures, Mason Giving Day marketing and appeals, and other pieces as needed in order to build relationships, particularly with alumni;Identify and solicit gifts;Improve annual giving outcomes;Manage a personal portfolio of donors and effectively use moves management to bring them to solicitation;Strategically use e-communications and social media to enhance annual fund outcomes;Demonstrate keen decision making in researching and identifying new prospective donors;Demonstrate an ability to work independently as well as a sense of creativity in finding new prospects;Generate gift and prospect reports to assist in gift and pledge tracking as well as the production of suspect/prospect lists for discovery & cultivation;Use data analytics to enhance outcomes and create predictive modeling;Work collaboratively with and in support of volunteers, other Advancement staff, and members of the university community to cultivate and solicit donors;Manage all aspects of the e-communications program including monthly newsletter, social media, and the production of stories for the website and University press;Create, market, and oversee multiple alumni engagement opportunities;Collaborate with Office of Alumni Relations to leverage online communications, social media and marketing tools to highlight the College. Maintain accurate and timely records using appropriate software;Track personal prospect contacts; andEnsure all donor records are clear, complete and accurate. Required Qualifications:Fundraising experience in either a higher education or a complex non-profit setting;Strong persuasive writing, organizational and interpersonal skills;Experience planning and executing cultivation, stewardship and fundraising events;Experience in creating and producing fundraising reporting systems;Technology and social media savvy;Ability to prioritize tasks and make decisions; andThe ability to motivate others, work effectively as part of a team, with volunteers, and donors, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to adapt in a fast-paced, multi-faceted, and dynamic organization. Preferred Qualifications:Knowledge and experience in the donor engagement process (moves management);Experience engaging and managing the efforts of volunteer groups; andExperience using Advance, Salesforce, Orbis, Banner or IModules/Anthology software systems.
