IT Security Analyst

George Mason University, Information Technology Services (ITS) - located on the Fairfax, Va., campus - invites applications for an IT Security Analyst position within the Information Technology Security Office (ITSO). Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will assist in the support of threat and vulnerability analysis. The incumbent will also support applications and business processes associated with threat analysis and response. These applications and processes include vulnerability scanning, security information event management (SIEM) system, Threat detection and response, IT governance risk and control management and assessment, IPS/IDS systems, and other applications. Creation, revision and ongoing development of work processes, procedures, standards & related documentation. Development of metrics & reporting requirements and timelines. This position also participates in incident response work.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in information systems, computer science, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Good working knowledge of Ethernet and TCP/IP networking, and associated IP and application protocols;
  • Good working knowledge of common operating systems for workstations and servers including Microsoft Windows, Apple OS's, Linux and mobile operating systems;
  • Demonstrated progressively responsible experience with technical computing support environments;
  • Demonstrated experience in dealing with multi-user computer systems in an enterprise environment;
  • Demonstrated experience in troubleshooting complex system problems to resolution;
  • Demonstrated experience in project and procedure documentation;
  • Demonstrated experience in security threat analysis tools (SIEM); and
  • Must be eligible to work in secure computing environments that process and store restricted data, including information subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI).


Preferred Qualifications:

  • One or more of the following certifications is preferred: CISSP, CISM, GIAC certifications, MCSE, RHCE;
  • Working knowledge of industry standard security controls, CIS Critical Security Controls, NIST Cybersecurity Framework, NIST 800-53, NIST 800-171, ISO 27002 Standard, PCI DSS; and
  • Demonstrated experience in metrics and reporting.


Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
