Leads the development of long-term goals and strategic plans to ensure continued successful growth and profitability; coordinates and integrates division plans with the organization's business goals and objectives. Studies, analyzes, and monitors the organization's position within the industry; recommends and pursues opportunities meant to position the organization favorably over the longer term. Communicates performance results with senior leadership; advises and recommends long-term strategies based on reviews.


  • Provides leadership and direction to the development and implementation of the enterprise strategy. This includes methods, tools, resources and, when possible, guidance to departments managing their own strategy development/implementation efforts.
  • Serves as Engagement Lead for internal strategic consulting projects, guiding a team of internal consultants responsible for strategic problem solving through data gathering, root cause analysis, recommendations and implementation considerations.
  • Partners with VP to cultivate and nurture strategic & client relationships that help advance strategic excellence across AARP. Pushes thinking and challenges conventional wisdom when necessary.
  • Partners with stakeholders to analyze and develop a recommended approach for solving critical enterprise-wide issues and challenges. Can include change management responsibilities or support.
  • Leads and works with cross-functional and matrix teams toward common goals where success was the result of influence without authority.
  • Must be highly organized and have a proven ability to think strategically, analyze, and evaluate complex and ambiguous issues and situations, and exercise independent judgment and decision-making.


  • Bachelor's degree required; MBA or equivalent Master's Degree preferred.
  • 8+ years' experience working in corporate strategy or a leading management consultancy, with broad experience in strategic planning.
  • At least five years' experience working in a client-focused consulting role responsible for analyzing complex enterprise problems from multiple angles and delivering actionable recommendations.
  • Experience in leading cross-functional teams toward common goals where success is the result of influence without authority. Ability to work with people with broad perspectives and skills.
  • Ability to think strategically, analyze, and evaluate complex and ambiguous issues and situations, and exercise independent judgment and decision-making.
  • Experience taking initiative and engaging C suite, senior management, colleagues and clients to tackle complex strategic challenges, demonstrating tenacity and resilience in the face of obstacles.
  • Results-oriented, high performer able to work effectively in an environment of change and ambiguity with sound judgment under pressure.
  • Program implementation experience, a plus.
  • This is an in-office position and the ability to work effectively surrounded by moderate noise is required.
  • Demonstrated verbal communication skills required.
