Postdoctoral Research Fellow - Analytical ChemistDepartment of Bioengineering The George Mason University Department of Bioengineering, within the College of Engineering and Computing, invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow. About the Position:The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will work within the Laboratory of Biomaterials and Nanomedicine, in the Department of Bioengineering, at the Institute for Advanced Biomedical Research (IABR) of George Mason University with a multidisciplinary team aiming to develop effective delivery systems for messenger RNA using lipid nanoparticles. The IABR is located on the Science and Technology campus of George Mason University in Manassas Virginia (https://scitechcampus.gmu.edu/) and is part of the greater Washington D.C. area, with close proximity to several collaborative research facilities. About the Department:The Department of Bioengineering (https://bioengineering.gmu.edu/) was established in 2010, and has rapidly grown to 13 full-time faculty and over 250 students in its BS, MS and PhD programs. The current research and educational focus areas are Biomedical Imaging and Devices, Computational Biomedical Engineering, Biomaterials and Nanomedicine, Neurotechnology and Computational Neuroscience. Responsibilities:Analysis of lipids for lipid nanoparticle messenger RNA delivery systems;Characterization of novel synthesized lipids by LC-MS/MS and chromatography (reversed-phase ion-pair HPLC, SEC);Development of methods to characterize lipid nanoparticle stability and lipid degradation;Development of methods to characterize lipid adducts and degradation products;Plan and execute experiments and analyze data independently; andProvide reports of data at regularly scheduled group meetings and assist in manuscript preparations. Required Qualifications: PhD degree in Analytical Chemistry or related field obtained by the start date of the position;Strong analytical chemistry and physical chemistry skills;In depth knowledge of tandem mass spectrometry techniques (QTRAP, triple quad, QTof) and chromatography (reversed-phase ion-pair HPLC, SEC); andAttention to detail, critical analysis of data and troubleshooting abilities. Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of isothermal titration calorimetry, differential scanning calorimetry, surface plasmon resonance, and NMR;Experience in characterization of antibody and peptide conjugates for targeting; andExcellent communication and presentation skills.A Force for Innovation in the Heart of Northern Virginia's Technology CorridorThe College of Engineering and Computing (CEC) at George Mason University is comprised of the Volgenau School of Engineering and a new School of Computing.
