Job Description

Our Circulation Billing department is on the lookout for a Senior Accounting Specialist. Someone who knows the ins and outs of intricate business and private individual accounts and can communicate effectively with the independent agents responsible for delivering The Washington Post every day. It's a fast-paced position in a dynamic team whose exciting challenges will put your accounting knowledge and experience to the test.

Responsibilities
  • Perform weekly analysis on client debt and withhold payments in accordance with provided guidelines
  • Perform semi-annual analysis of unclaimed property for print subscribers
  • Perform weekly analysis of subscribers with outstanding debt omitted from termination process
  • Validation of new agent contract rates and recurring provisions
  • Suggest, request and test enhancements to billing system to streamline and/or automate processes
  • Assist in resolving General Ledger variances
  • Provide monthly metrics to management
  • Assist with annual internal audit requests
  • Assist in print subscriber write-off and recovery process
  • Process daily billing for our print subscribers
  • Calculate and execute financial adjustments on subscriber accounts
  • Create accurate and complete billing statements for agents
  • Maintain integrity of billing files and transmissions
  • Respond promptly to inquiries from agents, call center reps and subscribers
  • Resolve billing discrepancies through calculations and analysis
  • Perform credit card reconciliations and chargebacks
  • Process agent change forms
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Qualifications
  • 2-3 years' experience in billing or accounting
  • Computer literacy and intermediate or advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Accounting or business degree preferred
