DevOps Network Engineer

Capital One Network Services has an opening for a DevOps Network Engineer in our Core Network Organization. As a DevOps Network Engineer, you will be responsible for leading and ensuring that Capital One best practices and methodologies are applied to the design, deployment and operations of Cloud Network, Cisco ACI, and data center infrastructure projects. You must possess strong knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (preferably using Terraform), automation, and python scripting, and be able to apply this knowledge to manage data center and cloud based network infrastructure. The candidate will primarily act in a DevOps role for the enterprise data network platforms with responsibilities to improve software-defined network maturity and drive efficiencies through automation. You will be responsible to provide technical guidance and leadership internally and to partner teams to drive solutions. You will provide design and deployment guidance. You should have experience with and a strong knowledge of Incident, Problem and Change management processes. You will drive technical resolution of High-Severity & Low Severity Incidents.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, deploy and support automation and scripting solutions to drive new capabilities, visibility, and efficiency for Core Network infrastructure.
  • Function as a resident software development subject matter expert for an infrastructure team focused on route/switch network technologies
  • Create Low Level Design, High Level Design, Implementation Plan, and Acceptance Test Plan documents in accordance with Capital One standards.
  • Create, update and publish Capital One standards to ensure network meets business and compliance needs
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance around DevOps best practices
  • Identify opportunities to reduce manual deployment/validation efforts and drive zero touch automation and network self healing
  • Manage and govern relationships with technology vendors utilized in the enterprise network.
  • Ensure compliance with departmental and enterprise security configuration standards.
  • Provide direct support of audit and ad hoc consulting engagements
  • Own platform life-cycle management
  • Ongoing on the job training and self study professional development
  • Operations Tier 3 escalation resource for incident resolution



Successful candidates will possess:


  • Exceptional interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to document solutions, present ideas to cross-functional teams, and explain operational issue background and root cause to vendors and senior leaders
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Solid understanding of cloud based solutions and services (preferably in AWS)
  • A solid understanding of what comprises a scalable, robust, supportable design
  • A passion to drive automation, scripting, machine learning, and self healing
  • A bias toward action, along with an internal drive for continuous improvement
  • A passion for teamwork
  • Ability to work in a flexible work environment that embraces rapid change, emphasizes continuous learning, and attacks new challenges
  • Ability to adequately discuss technical issues with technicians, engineers, architects and vendors.
  • Ability to work as part of an integrated team that is geographically dispersed, as well as work independently as required.
  • Experience with Linux
  • Familiarity utilizing REST APIs
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code methodologies and tools (i.e. Terraform)
  • Proficient knowledge of common DevOps tools such as Git/Github, Jenkins, containers, etc.
  • Proficient Python programming skills with object-oriented design principles desired.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of network routing and switching fundamentals.


This position is a DevOps role. As such, periodic late night maintenance work and participation in an on-call rotation will be required.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent certification
  • At least 3 years of information technology experience
  • At least 3 years of experience deploying and supporting automation solutions
  • At least 3 years of experience with Python or Terraform



Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 1+ years of networking software experience
  • 1+ years of experience with cloud services
  • 1+ years of experience with AWS Lambda
  • 1+ years of experience with network routing and switching
  • 4+ years of experience with Python or Terraform
  • AWS Solutions Architect Associate Certification
