Junior Application Analyst

About the Department:

University Life (UL) Technology Services provides a shared technology environment for the division of University Life. UL Technology Services is dedicated to ensuring continuous enhancement of services, compliance, and productivity to department core business practices.

Responsibilities:

The objective of this position is to provide IT support for the assigned departmental enterprise software systems as well as provide desktop support as needed to departments. This position will serve on a team as a point of contact for these systems.

The Junior Application Analyst provides technical support for assigned systems and their users. This position assists in the creation and maintenance of documentation related to system configurations and processes. The Junior Application Analyst assists in ensuring Units are current with technology and compliant with George Mason University's computing requirements. This position will also provide support for desktops and other needed equipment.

Further, this position will ensure the confidentiality and security of all information. This position will also serve as a team member of the University Life, Technology Services department.

Application Administration


  • Work under the guidance of assigned application administrator to follow best practices;
  • Work with staff on configuration changes and setup, and business process flow in the system;
  • Understand impacts of configurations to all processes, including both summer and academic year;
  • Perform user access control and permissions to the applications;
  • Ensure data integrity within system, including creation and utilization of reports validating data;
  • Utilize the application vendor to get application support as needed and to keep up to date on changes in software and/or current technology affecting business functions; and
  • Participate in rotating on-call support environment in response to after hour, critical, system-wide outages and emergencies and work with appropriate staff to resolve issues.


Technical Support


  • Support and resolve service tickets for internal customers and provide support and troubleshooting techniques;
  • Assist users as needed for desktop hardware or software issues;
  • Respond to user questions and reports of issues and application errors;
  • Resolve reported issues, escalating them as needed;
  • Provide support for automated tasks and jobs running in the system; and
  • Provide system training as needed for users.


Documentation


  • Create and maintain user support documentation for the assigned system;
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for functions and processes related to applications and workflow;
  • Assist stakeholders from other functional areas within units in process documentation; and
  • Assist in the development of technical design and documentation of application-dependent data conversions, interfaces, custom reporting, and custom applications.


University Life Information Technology


  • Ensure all system compliance per Industry and University policy including conducting risk assessments, classification/review of systems, business impact analysis, and other assessments as needed;
  • Serve as part of the University Life Technology Services team ensuring compliance with processes and procedures;
  • Ensure documentation is updated and available for other IT staff to assist as necessary;
  • Assist with the development of processes, policies, and procedures for the division of University Life; and
  • Serve as liaison with departments to ensure knowledge and compliance of all division processes.


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and work experience;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with demonstrated success with customer service and satisfaction;
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills;
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and attention to detail;
  • Proven ability to manage time effectively;
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative;
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment;
  • Ability to translate technical terminology to non-technical personnel;
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment with a desire for knowledge expansion and professional challenges as a means for growth and development;
  • Experience with application administration, including system maintenance, user support, troubleshooting issues, and prioritization of requested enhancements;
  • Experience in technical and/or business process documentation; and
  • Proficiency in supporting and resolving IT software and hardware issues within an IT ticketing system.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated (two years preferred), full-time work experience.
